Children's pocket money

Hi, I wonder if I can ask your advice please. We have a 9 year old daughter and feel she should be getting some pocket money so she can save up for things she really wants that we wouldn't necessarily buy. How much do you think is a realistic amount to give?
Also do you get your child to do odd jobs around the house to earn a bit more and do you pay for presents for their friends when they go to birthday parties etc?
Thanks
