Certificate (Proof) of posting - address needed?

I had a disagreement with the woman in the Post Office today. I had some packets to post and asked for proof of posting. She printed off a receipt and handed it to me. I said you've not added the address and she said there was no need. Now what use is a receipt without an address? I said every other PO I go to writes the address on the receipt or prints a proof of posting.
I feel if I needed to make a claim Royal Mail would laugh at me if I produced a receipt. I could make fraudulent claims left, right and centre surely?
Am I right or will Royal Mail accept a receipt with no address as proff of posting?

Are you sure its not the newer type where the postcode is already printed on the receipt?0

No, these ones do not have the postcode on. There is a big space 2/3 down to write in though!0

I had the same experience. The post office guy gave me a receipt with no postcode when I asked for POP. He told me that is the POP, I said I usually get one with no postage cost but the address on it. He said he's worked in the Post Office a long time so he is right, but he relented and handwritten the postcode on it.
I doubt his handwritten postcode would be much good when it comes to a claim.0 -
This is really interesting.
My OH went to the PO the other day for me because I was unwell to send some stuff off for Ebay. I asked him to get a certificate of posting and he came back with just a receipt.
He said he queried this and they said that it was correct, but how on earth could you make a claim without proof of where it was sent?0 -

My local post office are terrible - they refuse to write the house number, postcode and then stamp it like my old post office always did. I made a complaint and was told that they were right, and then when I tried to claim I was told my POP was invalid.0

I've always either been handed blank ones to write yourself, or have had the post office hand write it on for me. They've been accepted when I've had to make a claim.Murphy's No More Pies Club #209
