Tell them that you will complain to the FSA/FOS unless they fit an OE windscreen. Insurers have to pay something like £500 to the FSA/FOS for every complaint that is investigated, even if the ombudsman find in the insurance companies favour. The difference between OE and Non OE will be less than £500 so if they have any business sense they will realise its cheaper for them to fit the OE part in the first place.
  • Yep, take it to the dealer and make sure it's not a stress fracture, may get it warrenty if it is. It's not uncommon for them to fracture on the earlier ones so worth a try. Don't bother if their is a stone chip though as they won't entertain it at all

Just go through the insurer and get their pet fitters to do the job. However, make sure you are happy not only with the fit and clean up, but that there are no weird distortions in the glass. I've seen it a couple of times, usually in big double curvature rear screens but after some 'phone work, they agreed to change.

Bear in mind that you have to follow the insurers complaints procedure first which can take 8 weeks. Don't know how long the FOS will take.

When I reported something to the FOS to be looked at they told me a MINIMUM of 3 months if I was lucky but would likely be far longer... Luckily I got my problem sorted on my own. They then had the cheek to send me a survey asking me to rate the service... they didn't do anything for me!?

Unfortunately some people are very quick to suggest the FOS.

The assumption that the insurer will have to pay for each complaint about them worries me. If it costs the insurance company then it ultimately costs every policyholder.

In my case I had a 5 month complaint on going with a company (Not an insurance company) which was never going to be resolved. Got solicitors involved and FOS and had a resolution within days.. mostly because of the solicitors though!
