Did the crack start from an edge ?
You might want to make sure there is an impact mark that caused the crack as They have had a small problem with a few of them cracking all on there own.

p.s Dont worry about a non geniune screen it does not matter and the dealer is just trying to worry you.

Much as I hate to say it, I think the insurer has it tied down quite well.

We will pay:
To repair or replace broken glass in your car's windscreen or windows, and any scratching to the bodywork caused by broken glass, as long as there has not been any other loss or damage. We may choose to repair your car with parts that may not have been made by the car's manufacturer but are of a similar standard. Any payment for replacement of glass under this section will not reduce your No Claims Discount, (though at your next renewal you will no longer be eligible for any increase in your No Claims Discount according to our declared scale). However, in order to obtain the full benefit under this section the work must only be undertaken by our approved windscreen repairer contactable via AXA Glass Claims on 0844 874 0333*. The other thing to be aware of, as it says, it won't affect your existing no claims, ie you won't lose any, but you won't get the ncd increase this year.

I called the Mini dealer I bought the car from and they advised me to get an original Mini windscreen.

They will ALWAYS tell you that... because they make a lot of money from it. The screens that Autoglass use will be of the same standard just not stamped by Mini...

• There were always three classes of goods but I cannot remember their "proper" names but basically are "original branded", "original unbranded" and "3rd party". The first two are made by the same factory, just one gets put into a Mini branded box and the other gets put into a white box. The last one is someone who reverse engineers the product and makes their own version of it.

Says the company selling the part or the insurer trying to get a customer to accept it.

Ask autoglass what brand they use.
They may have a variety of suppliers, like triplex, pilkington, etc they are usually a well known branded product, and sometimes will give you a choice if you can wait until they get one delivered.

Please use the number on the back of your certificate for windscreen claims - their authorised repairer is Autoglass, but if you go direct rather than through their helpline they will still put a £100 limit (over the excess) on it.

I've recently had an issue when a Motor Trader used his normal local windscreen co, and due to the AXA £100 limit was £190 short of the bill.

There is no mention of what to do in their policy documents or keyfacts, it only goes on the back of the certificates, his loss overlapped the dates the certs went out, and him receiving them. Back of the cert says something along the line of "Call this number for your nearest windscreen replacement co" Well, how ambiguous is that - they may work opposite a windscreen outlet so don't need to find where their nearest depot is.

AXA claims would not budge  however taking it further, have managed to get the £190 shortfall credited to customers main insurance instalments.

In the first instance I rang AXA customer services and they told me I was covered for oe glass, so I asked the lady to book my replacement with auto glass and while I was on hold she said her supervisor told her I wasn't covered...

I even asked AXA if I could pay the difference to auto glass to get oe glass but they straight out refused!!

Any recommendations for taking this forward?

It looks like there is a small impact where a stone or similar must of hit it...

It's strange, when I tried to book through auto glass they asked who I was covered with. I mentioned AXA and they said it must be swift cover?? They then said swift cover do not let them use oe glass unless they send them specific permission to do so!
