I've got my heart set on within half a mile of Wigston town centre. I can only stretch to a 3 bed.

Do you mean W Magna? Quite a tricky area if you've got a certain budget, what with Oadby on one side and Eyres Monsell in the other direction. I see what you mean about price/location, but surely just going another half a mile would help?

Every house purchase is a balance between the two. However you can't change the location of a property once you buy it but there are options to improve the size/storage of your house once you have the money saved up.

I wouldn't live in a rough location even if I could afford a mansion there. On the other hand I wouldn't like in a shoebox just be able to live in a fashionable or exclusive location.

I think its a matter of compromise.

Yes. Wigston Magna. It is still close to city centre but yet has the little Wilko, shops and a Wetherspoons pub etc. I wanted to be within half a mile walk. I live on a council estate very close to Monsell so don't want to go there. May as well stay where I am.:cry: Not sure how I have managed it italisice this!

Mortgage is my only debt - Original mortgage - January 2008 = £88,400, March 2014 = £47,000 Chipping away slowly! Now saving to move.

I've decided in response to everyone's feedback that location seems to win. I've decided that we will continue to overpay as much as possible (not much equity/deposit as house went straight into neg equity about 6 months after I got it!). The a pregnancy is nine months. Keep bedrooms as is. Then when baby needs own room it will be another 24 months at least of overpaying. Good idea?
