I was amused last week when I went shopping to town. There was a young boy playing the violin, and was collecting money in the case. The note attached explained that his school was going on a trip to France and the money raised would enable him to go! Not sure what other people think, but I kept my money in my purse to use for my own children's school trips.

He's working to earn the money - I'd have given him a bit of change. I am tight, so never give more than £1 but I like to see buskers earning some money, or kids offering to wash cars or do other jobs to earn a holiday.

I would have given him money. Nothing wrong with using a bit of initiative, a few more kids should try it

Anyway, the money was for his violin playing

I gave up reading this thread halfway down page 2! I always remember getting the letters from my secondary school about ski trips to france and other trips and thinking they were amazing. I never once gave them to my parents, I knew they couldn't afford it and would rather they spent the money on a day out for us rather than 5 days away with a bunch of people I didn't like. Infact the school trips like that gave me a week away from the bullies which is a huuuge bonus!

I'm glad I never went skiing or any of the other trips, people whinged they were boring. I only ever went on one overnight trip which my grandparents paid for I believe and I was so incredibly poorly the whole time I just wanted to be home with my parents anyway.

    Sooo glad I don't have kids :)
