I have made the book day costumes though. Daughter once went as a dalmation (took me hours to sew those spots on!!) and son went as Denace the Menace again hours of sewing black stripes on to a red jumper.
I am so glad those days are over!
LOL, wonderweb is your friend....!! Or glue!!
I spent hours once sewing on the badges to my DD Brownie sash as she had been invited to a wedding in uniform. My fingers were bleeding by the time I finished - she did not even wear the bloody thing! And never has!! :cool:0 -
Just wait until they go to University!!!!!!!
Pay £4,500 just to keep their place open while they doing a year abroad on a language course ....0 -

I have to ask, why didn't she do it? Surely that's the point?0 -

No you don't - the tuition fee loan pays that.0 -

My 2 teenage boys are going away in June, with the school to Spain for 6 days/5 nights. The cost is £650 each child so £1300 in total - this includes coach from Edinburgh to Glasgow flight from Glasgow to Spain transfer from airport to resort then 5 night stay at water sports residential all meals included and a trip to barceleno football stadium.
We have been told they can take spending money if we can afford it I had said to the kids I would give them 100 euros each plus £20 gbp but my lovely Mummy was up for her Tuesday night visit this week and handed them a bag of toiletries each with everything the need for the holiday and 60 euros each.
Yeah kids are expensive but I knew that before having them! And they know that they will get whatever we can afford. We all watched sport relief last night and all 3 of my boys said to me that we are very lucky to have what we have.0 -

Yeah, Sports Relief does kind of put things into perspective doesn't it? I know that we are kind of being manipulated when we are shown all those terrible things but I'm grateful for that. I can't imagine living the life that so many others have to lead. Makes my petty cares seem rather ridiculous.0 -
Perhaps you could suggest that the school buys a jar of saffron and tells pupils they can pay for the amount they need? Or talk to other mums on facebook and agree to club together to buy it, or take it in turns to supply certain ingredients?
i've got a life , considering i don't know any other pupils in that class , i;m hardly likely to have their mothers as fb friends ,
the school should set a realistic amount per recipe , £5 would be ample .0 -

I do agree with you on the ingredients thing.
I would much rather just pay a set amount and the school provide them. I have also had to go out and buy something I never use for just one teaspoon!
I tried to get my daughter to get together with the others and share, but it never quite worked out and I always ended up just going out and buying the lot.
Something else I am glad is over now!0 -

He had been there three days only when he was asked to design/buy Christmas cards - that is, in the beginning of September. I know it will get worse - and I am keeping a track - if only to shame the school!
I think I must be really mean as I have never bought the Christmas cards my kids have designed. They are such a rip off. Lovely but I never pay if I feel I am being ripped off. Also photographs have hardened to this over the years and now only buy 1 of them not the £30 sets anymore. I also don't buy it if I don't like it. Kids have been really good and not kicked off. I have explained to the kids that I simply can't afford it. Bless them. We have a £520 German trip to pay for. I have not taken up the option of paying the school in installments that are non refundable but will pay into another account that I will get back if anything goes wrong and she doesn't end up going in the end.
