School seem to think we have a money tree at the bottom of the garden!

Just a vent really!
I can't wait for the Easter holidays, the school want money for this and that, and it's getting right on my wick! Just for info I have 2 DD's aged 10 & 7.
Last week school wanted 3 weeks dinner money in advance so they could bank the money. I ignored it and just sent the one week.
Sport relief - I am quite happy to donate the £1 each required (I don't agree with where the money goes, but that's a subject for another day!) , but the subject of what to wear is causing arguments, so I'm quite happy to put my foot down and make them wear school uniform. I'm certainly not shelling out for anything new!
School fayre tomorrow - I will have to give DD's some money each to buy whatever tat takes their fancy! Luckily I'm at work tomorrow and will miss it, that's a shame! I have already had to donate stuff for this.
Hard boiled egg decorating - the juniors are encouraged to decorate a hard boiled egg which I will have to go and buy stuff for, which I don't want to do, plus it's muggins here who will end up doing the work, so I've decided we're not participating.
DD's have also bought tickets for the Easter raffle, not to mention I will have to pay the school club up to date next week when they break up.
It's a good job I've already got youngest DD's birthday present sorted, as I wouldn't have any money left.

It does seem that way sometimes endless payments to school!!
I have just had three requests from school for money, the latest one being for GCSE revision class during the Easter holidays which we have to pay for.0 -
We are very lucky our school always ask for a contribution. I paid £15 for a trip last week and was about the 5th out of 30 who did, everyone else gave £1-£5!!
Poundland do packs of bits for easter crafts, Home bargains had huge packs they could share and still have some left over for next year

Having kids costs money. Did you miss the memo?

Seriously, you've sorted the request for the dinner money in advance by only giving them one week's worth. I assume they were happy with this. The sport relief day is one measly quid and the eggs won't cost much either. If you want to decorate them, can't you find something knocking around the house already? Poster paint? Felt tips? Biro?
You could also ask your daughter to buy things at the fayre and raffle tickets out of her pocket money. If you don't give her pocket money, or she's run out, then does she really need raffle tickets or tat at the fayre? If you don't have the money then she just goes without.
Wait until they want to go on some trip that costs hundreds! At the moment be thankful it's just a few quid."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -
What really gets to me is the cost of school trips! I mean £800 for one week's skiing, £600 for a 5 day trip to Germany and that's BEFORE giving the children any spending money, clothes etc - I mean, they say they are not putting pressure on the parents, but with trips at this kind of expense, don't know how they come to this conclusion!!
Also agree with you too with the odd £ here and there - I have found though that (apart from the expensive trips) the 'little' amounts have dropped dramatically
edit: and what really gets my goat is they don't like you to take the children out of school to go on a family holiday, yet think nothing of doing these trips in school term or a day off school to play netball, football, rugby etc
(sorry seem to have hijacked your thread:o)When you were born, you were crying and everyone around was smiling. Live your life so at the end, you're the one who is smiling and everyone around you is crying!:rotfl:

Don't know if I'm being daft here, but can you not just decorate eggs with felt pens?
My sister's two are at primary school and there's always something costing money whether it's a pound here or £2 there. I guess I have all this to look forward to

I find that Primary schools have 3 main trigger times for asking for money, where several requests come at once. 1st 1/2 term in an Academic year, Xmas and Easter.
I do however agree, the minute you see just one letter about a Secondary school residential trip, you'll wonder why you ever moaned. :rotfl:0 -
I did wonder what the moan was about - but I'm at secondary school stage lol.
My eldest (who's now left school) went on a trip to France in the early days and to be honest, he didn't enjoy it enough to have spent so much money on it. They spent 2 out of the 4/5 days travelling. We decided there and then, no more residential trips, it's not like they're educational and we could've taken the whole family for a week camping for less money.
I didn't like paying to let them go to school in mufty for various charities, I choose which charities I support and didn't like the school making that decision for me.
The fayre is personal choice though, if you don't want to give your kids money, don't, or make them work for it.0 -
It may seem extortionate, but don't forget that includes the cost of [STRIKE] subsidising the teachers in attendence [/STRIKE] ensuring you children are "supervised" during the trip.MunniMuncha wrote: »What really gets to me is the cost of school trips! My son is in Reception, and in the first term it cost @ £115 in 'asks'. That's non uniform day, designing and buying Christmas cards, school photos, sponsorship, harvest festival, nativity play tickets etc and not including milk money, school dinners or uniform.
He had been there three days only when he was asked to design/buy Christmas cards - that is, in the beginning of September. I know it will get worse - and I am keeping a track - if only to shame the school!Ankh Morpork Sunshine Sanctuary for Sick Dragons - don't let my flame go out!0
