"Proposals" are not reality. The reality is the higher rate tax payer is going to see a higher tax bill and lower benefits next year compared to last year.
    .

If you look ast it like that, the reality it is that is still a proposal :)

A personal allowance increase will lead to a net income increase, that is correct.

But that's irrelevant as the income thresshold is that amount before the personal allowance so it doesn't make any difference? Unless you're arguing this threshhold should also go up.

Personally I think they should all be scrapped but that's a separate argument.

Are you saying that tax credits are based on gross income? if so then no problem.

37p on a packet of fags will cost a fortune to social services, state pensions and the NHS in the long term.

    personal allowance

rise in tax free allowance to £8105 in 2 weeks, plus then to £9205 from next april

Next April is in two weeks. Dim-witted Tory !!!! (osborne, not hamish), should have said "from April 2013".
Increase in Tax Allowance will be cancelled-out by reduction of equal amount in WTC.

Increae in fuel duty will lead to a reduction of Tax income as people leave their cars at home and haulage firms go bust.

Obviously they don't teach economy or business studies at Eton these days, or was Osborne asleep during the lecture outlining how you can increase profits by undercutting your competitors and thus taking their trade ?. Lower fuel & alcohol duty below that of our French/Belgium,Dutch nieghbours and all the booze-cruisers will flock to buy their supplies over here, thus increasing the amount gained in taxation by the treasury.

At least the English Democrats understand such principles, even if the big parties do not.

CAB woman on BBC said that people claiming benefits would only get 15p in the pound.
  • this is a bull5hit budget. i lose my child benefit. why? yet a couple on 99k will still be getting it. it should have been on household, not individual income. it should have just been cut for more than 2kids and stopped at age 12.

the petrol increase is still happening. this is just an outright steal from the squeezed middle. the poor are fine, the rich are fine and the middle have been stolen from again.

this is all because the middle will just tut a bit whereas the poor will riot.

absolutely disgusting useless budget. labour would be worse though.

they should cut benefit to a 15k cap and lower taxes accordingly. Also, higher rate should not kick in until 60k.

cigarette and booze should have been increased more. Petrol reduced.

also, commuting expenses should be tax deductible.

There'd have to be a massive contraction in public spending with a 15% flat tax. I doubt that would happen.

i not saying its the answer by any means.

lower tax would bring in more foreign investment, it would make us more attractive to those better off etc etc.

it would be interesting to see how other countries tax models would work here to see if there there is a fairer/better system that we currently have

Not much in it nowadays between our fuel costs & in Europe. Those that keep banging on about how much cheaper it is over there are out of touch now. In fact, a couple of the countries you name are now dearer than us.
