I don't necessarily advocate Edf over Scottish Power:D but if you compare on a comp website, depending on your region, you may see that Edf Blue +Price Promise offers typically a 2-4% saving over SP OS18 with (unlike SP OS18) no early termination charges.
So you would still be well placed for The Big Flop.0 -

I have had Scottish power on the phone trying to keep my custom as I have swiched from oline saver 13 to npower Gofix11 the start date is 2nd May.The chap on the phone said I would have to pay the cancellation fee which seems unfair if true as the contract ends the 30th April and I will still be a customer on that date and so have I not fulfilled my part of the contract?0

Yes you have, he is talking nonsense. You are still in contract until the date you go on supply with NPower. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Dont fancy going with EDF thanks but yes , they would be a bit cheaper. Not sure if Ive made a mistake, but Ive just used the Go compare site , to see if it agreed with two others that SP online 18 would be cheaper for me than SP fixed Jne 2013 -- and SP didnt feature ANYWHERE in the list Go Com gave me . Odd?0 -
My online saver 13 finishes at end of April. I was offered online saver 18, but a comparison site said that SP fixed price tariff was cheaper. So I phoned SP and a very helpful customer service rep checked my usage and confirmed that the fixed price tariff is cheaper for me. She also said that if the price drops and a cheaper tariff becomes available with SP, I can switch to the new tariff without penalty (although there is a penalty if I switch to another provider within the fixed period).
I like SP's simple and straightforward online account, especially the fact that I can enter regular meter readings and get an instant up-date on how much I am in credit/debit. So I have decided to stay with SP.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

I want to make a very important point for the benefit of others as the same issue has been raised in a few threads.
When switching, the losing supplier is not informed of the switch until the expiry of the cooling-off period. That means that any attempt to cancel the switch (encouraged by the losing supplier) will incur the early termination charges of the new suppliers tariff.
Such retention attempts (and the date misinformation explained by macman) are "mis-selling", unless ETC liability is clearly explained, and should be raised as a complaint.0 -
I emailed Scottis Power complaints and they have informed me that I will not be charged a cancellation fee.Looks like Scottish Power are not fully against a bit of mis selling to try and keep there customers but no doubt it will be put down to a rogue sales man.0

We're going to ring up SP tomorrow and ask them to switch to the fixed June 2013 tariff as huuby's calculations have it down as cheaper than the offered OLES 180
