Scottish Power - Online Saver 18
If anyone has already started a thread on this, sorry, I could not find it so started this one.
Just had an email informing me fro SP that my discounted period with Online Saver 13 is ending, with three (honest) options:
1] Do nowt and get switched to their more expensive Standard account.
2] Go elsewhere, cancellation charge free.
3] Transfer to their Online Saver Account 18.
Since transferring to them, I've had no problems with billing, etc., so option 3] is my favourite. Jumping from the frying pan into the fire is not my favourite game, if you get my drift. So far, the rate tart in me is not yet ready to jump ship.
Unless others can convince me otherwise...........

I had that email too, did you read this as you may not incurr charges to switch?
Switching Supplier
If you notify us that you wish to change supplier before 1st May 2012 and we receive a request for your supply from another supplier within 15 working days, we will not move you to our standard monthly Direct Debit prices or charge you a cancellation fee. If you have an outstanding debt, we may object to your supply leaving us, but we will give you time to pay the debt and leave us without incurring the increased prices.0 -
I'm in the same situation.
I've been checking out comparison sites but realised I was using the current deal (Online Saver 13) instead of the new rates (Online Saver 18).
When I used the Online Saver 18 there were a couple of providers (First Utility and NPower) coming up slightly cheaper by around £45. Whether that would be enough to be worth moving I'm not sure, although there's also £40 cashback for First Utility through Topcashback.
I also noticed that Scottish Power's Online Fixed Price Energy July 13 seems to be cheaper than their Online Saver 18, so if I do opt to stay with them I'll choose that one instead.
I seem to remember they did this last year and there were cheaper tarriffs available than the ones they offered , but you had to search for them.
In terms of cancellation charges, it's a bit confusing as their email states no charges if you move supplier before 1st may, but their reply to me today was that i would incur charges if I moved before 30th April. Might need to get back to them on that one!
Hope that helps.0 -
So what do the comp sites tell you is cheapest? That should be your first port of call, armed with your annual kWh figures. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I'm in the same boat ie on OS13, but SP have recommended OS18.
I shall be looking around and following this thread with great interest0 -
Snap , we're also in the same boat0

I got offered this deal today, but will be looking around first.
Learn from the mistakes of others - you won't live long enough to make them all yourself.0 -
If you want the fixed price until July 2013, e-mail them and they should swap you over. I found N Power to be cheaper but don't like the idea of discounts being applied annually.0

Well i've joined the 'Which Big Switch'.
They are doing a 'reverse auction' in April.
Suppliers will be invited to submit their lowest price for electricity and gas and will be bidding against each other, so hopefully a good deal can be screwed out of them for a change lol.0 -
Has any one decided what to do yet as I am on the same.0

I am in the same boat. Npower fix is cheaper for me, but if I can fix with SP for less than online 18 I will probably stay, but I haven't checked that myself yet (and it doesn't come up on comparison sites)I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
