pop ups ... this is ridiculous ... any experts ?

Options
ok i should know this as i work in IT .... but

My son downloaded a film , legal we thought ..... it asked for a password from a website to play it .... it played but installed adaware on my pc

I reformatted to get rid of it

He has done it again ...... im in control

Ok so ive followed the instructions here ... downloaded spybot s+d ran it in safe mode , ran it in windows ...disabled system restore (how do i delete the restores) .... also used avg ... it found and deleted several cookies and harmware .... ive updated and immunized which has half worked as the pop ups just appear in my task bar then appear when i close my current window

Im going to have to suss this as ill face it with a customer no doubt....

Has anyone got any tried and tested methods to eradicate this thing ... where is it ? ... this can not be rocket science

thanks in advance

  • also will installing ie7 help ... or eradicate the adaware thats opening with ie6
  • First of all when you disable system restore it deletes all the files in memory as far as I am aware :)

Secondly your best friend here is hijack this as it will tell you where the spyware is coming from on your machine! And then you can google the file to find a specific fix to your spyware :)

"Hijack This" is what you need. Download, install, run a scan, copy the results from a text file into here :)

    Also

If IE7 stops the adaware from appearing, it may still be there which is bad enough!

It a great little (free) program for cleaning your system up and also cleaning your registry as well.

    ccleaner will not remove spyware

they need to follow that thread posted and then post a hijackthis log if it still occurs

  • You need to look for things you don't know... for example the last line! So wltrysvc.exe - never heard of that, so google it...
"wltrysvc.exe is a "Broadcom Corporation Wireless Network Tray Applet See also: Link "

    So that's fine.

Things with (no name) and (no file) should be checkmarked and fixed.. i.e

    I'm also very interested in:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Long Size Poke 4] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Phonemesslongsize\Bits hope.exe

Does that ring a bell? If not, start your computer in safe mode. Do a scan, check it and fix it.. go to the directory and DELETE that file. Then restart your computer :) Do the same with any other suspicious files!

Go to this site and register there

    http://forums.techguy.org/54-security/

And post the hijack report there, that site is dedicated to pc security, and will help you with your hijack report.

If you are goint to start just deleting items, you will be in a whole world of trouble, you may as well just wipe it all off again and restart from scratch.

major mistake to just delete items, without knowing what your doing
Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j
  • It will stop current processes from running so when you restart if the files there it would still run. Thats why you need to be in safe mode. You can stop it fromrunning then delete it soit wont start again.

A LOT of those processes (all the ones i didnt say) are related to important things on your machine!!! EVERYTHING that runs your machine is in that list so you don't want to check/remove important windows processes. ONLY ones that windows doesnt need that could be spyware. Try the ones I suggested first :)
