  • I'm not sure of any in that area but it depends on what length of course you want really. most of the year long ones will have started already. if you try calling learndirect they should be able to tell you if there are that haven't started or any short courses!
  • Same for me. I've tried looking for classes in or around Edinburgh without success, apart from West Lothian college in Livingston, but a) it started over 2 weeks ago, and b) I think there is an expectation of a certain level of baking skill. Any ideas would be gratefully received.

  • Hi, Sorry for butting in but I also live in Leeds and am keen to get into cake making and cake decorating. Just wondering is your course at Thomas Danby college? Would you recommend it? I did phone them up but all places were taken for this year so I will have to apply next year. Do you know if there is a limit on how many courses you do at one time. For example, can you do fulltime baking and part time cake decorating? Do you know of any private courses in Leeds like the ABC one mentioned above?

Thnks in advance for your help.
  • I'm suffering from the ol' 'where to do it' problem as well, any words of advice for a little un' in the South East? x

I live in Bolton and attend Bolton com college for their cake dec class and i also am a member of bsg bolton branch. Whilst our class is good progress is quite slow due to there being lots, perhaps too many people in the class and only being on 2hrs a week but checkout the bolton branch website www.boltonbsg.org i feel i get more out of it although it only meets once a month. hope this helps
  • Aspire7 - not been on here for ages so sorry i haven't replied!

Yeah I am studying at Thomas Danby, and as far as I know you can do as many courses as you can timetable in! I'm pretty sure you couldn't enrol on 2 courses that were supposed to run at the same time but if one is days and the other evenings I see no reason you couldn't do both.

The next course starts in September and yes I would recommend it. It gives you a good grounding in royal icing work which i knew nothing at all about before i started, and touches on fondant icing too although i believe that's covered more in year / level 2.

I don't know of any private courses i'm afraid but i think park lane might have a short course starting in january although i have no idea if they'll still have places available.

hope this helps in any way!!

I've heard the London Culinary Institute was quite good for cake decorating courses. Could anyone here give me a little more information? ie, how was the course? Did it help? etc..
  • Cake decorating courses can be found at Cake Art Creations of Atherstone, Warwickshire.
If you look at Lynda's web site details of PME Sugarcraft courses are on there.
