Amit, it depends on what you're doing. The more you do, the more your CPU has to work (working at full capacity), the more battery you use.

zaccy when I uninstalled Norton I had major problems, it's like it just never wanted to go away

I did a search on google for something like 'uninstall Norton (and then what the product is)' and it came up with a site where you had to download a programme and it completely cleans your computer from Symantec/Norton. The programme you d/l to get rid of Norton deletes itself after you have got rid of Norton. Sorry, I can't remember which site it was but I'm sure you'll be able to find it easy enough. Hope this helps :)

My laptop seems to get very hot, even with light use and the fan kicks in when doing anything remotely 'challenging is this normal for a laptop?

How hot is "hot", mew? Mine gets luke warm, but never really hot. The fan switches on no more than it did on my Dell. I use mine for challenging stuff all the time (constantly downloading and burning on the dvdrw, etc).
In a rut? Can't get out? Don't know why?
It's time to make that change.

My E6100 also gets very hot indeed, although it does warn this on the back and in the instructions

You would not want it directly on your lap for long

My old Dell does not even warm, but my old ( now sadly dead) Sony Vaio also got really hot

My ones going back to get the starting up problem sorted out, ie the laptop has a problem starting, the harddrive spins then nothing happens, five times later it starts fine. According to the 2 technical support guys, it was a software problem and now it could be a problem with the motherboard. I shall wait and see :wall:

My Laptop started doing exactly the same over the last week and became so unstable in Windows last night that I did a Complete reload of windows. When I went to update windows this morning it would not download any updates. To cut a long story short (has taken me all day to get to this stage)
To completely uninstall Norton I used "SymNRT.exe" (as PB's uninstaller only partialy removed Noton) and that then stopped "Background Intelligent Transfer Service or BITS" from running and that then stopped Windows updates from workig. I eventually cured it by loading Service Pack 2.

The computer now starts on one press of the button and the problem may have started when I used PB's Norton uninstaller, that only partially uninstalls Norton. Could it be that Norton still working in the background was stopping my computer from booting fully on the first press of the button?

I think the best way would be a clean install of Windows without the rest of the crap but how do you do it wthout a windows disk and just that stupid recovery disk that does not do a reformat in the recovery process?

I've deleted my earlier posts to linking to Norton's uninstaller to hopefuly prevent anyone else having the same problem .

I still have problems wth the keyboad's response so I think it will be going back to PC World..PB have not responded to my online fault report

Those who are finding that their Laptop is runnig hot could try checking in Control panel/Power options that they are setup for Portable Laptop as that is the only mode where the AMD power saving procesor driver is used (according to PB's FAQs).

I supose everyone but me knew that a Microphone is built into the lid but I was taken aback by how much the hinges squealed on closing the lid until I realised that it was positive feedback fom the speakers, as I'D just been playing around with the sound controls

My one has this problem from cold starts and I havent uninstalled Norton.

I have also tried restoring and reinstalling windows to factory settings, but this problem is still there. I suspected that it could of been the a problem with the ram that I installed but this still occurs when the ram has been taken out.

I am suprised to hear that you have a microphone in your lid as I am pretty sure my one doesnt have one.

What is wrong with your keyboard cos i think i might have a slimilar problem. Sometime the space bar does not work i have to press it quite hard may be its because its a laptop and i am used to of using a computer keybaord as i dont press the buttons very hard in.

I reckon they will all have a mic fitted. Go into control panel, select sounds and devices, then select voice and press the test hardware button, wait for the Wizard to load, then say something to the screen and you will see green bars on the recording chart, the louder you speak the more there are ;)

Hi Zaccy I have tried this much to my wifes amusement :D and it doesnt appear to have a microphone.
