  • Nah, the game's not there, but it has been at some point. If you check Windows Firewall Exceptions, you'll find reference to Splinter Cell Pandora in there as a program that's been allowed to pass through windows firewall, even though Splinter Cell isn't installed on the laptop and doesn't come with it. Basically, when they stopped selling the games pack with the laptops, they performed a restore back to factory settings. What they didn't realise is that restore doesn't remove all traces (and in this case, left behind the Splinter Cell exception under Windows Firewall).

    To check, do this:

Control Panel > Windows Firewall > Exceptions.

See what's listed in there. If you've got Splinter Cell Pandora listed there, or anything like that, you've got one of the old stock laptops. Someone else on here did check theirs and found they had it listed too. Two of the three laptops I've had had it listed. The third one hasn't - it also has a different HDD and DVDRW.

To check your hardware, click control panel > system > hardware > device manager. Then just click though to see what's what. Alternatively, you can check by clicking on My Computer, then right click on the various drives and clicking on properties.

Anyone have a problem switching their computer on, I hear the HDD starting up and the light switch on yet the computer doesnt start, the power switch has to held for a few seconds so that it switches on. Sometimes this happens 4 times before it switches on anyone know what the problem is and should I take this back to PCWORLD?.

Is this starting it up from cold, or from standby?

If the light on the left below your screen is flashing, it means the PC is in standby.... press the power button once, and depending on what you had running when it went into standby mode, it can take up to a minute for the screen to come on.

I've not had any problems. Just remember that the power button works like this :

If the computer is OFF: pressing the power button once turns it on.
If the computer is ON : pressing the power button puts it into standby.
If the computer is in STANDBY : pressing the power button takes it out of standby, back to "ON" status.
If the computer is in STANDBY : Holding the power button for 5 seconds switches the computer OFF.

    Hope this helps!

This is starting up from cold, the harddrive spins but then switches off and then the standby light comes on, the screen doesnt come on and you have to push the power button and wait 5 sec before you try again.

Mine's running fine now (touch wood).

Oh, forgot to mention one thing mine does - sometimes, when booting up, explorer.exe doesn't load. It's got something to do with AVG anti-virus hanging. Rebooting sorts it out straight away, so not too worried about it. I'll probably just uninstall and reinstall avg to sort it out.

Amit, it depends on what you're doing. The more you do, the more your CPU has to work (working at full capacity), the more battery you use.
