If you log into your domain management, you might be able to submit it for indexing from there (123-reg certainly does, not sure about others). You can also pay for Google AdWords to get some clickthroughs. It's also good practice to include good metatags in your pages and have well written bot readable text on your site, especially the home page.
I'm with 123-reg for my domain name but i can't see where to submit my site for indexing???? where do i click!?!?0 -

Hi
Get listed on some directories relevant to your business area.
Try http://www.directorycritic.com/niche-directories.html
they have massive lists, the page I have given you the link to is the niche directories link and this includes UK focussed ones. I also have a popular UK directory, so PM me if you want a listing - all the listings are free and fully featured.0 -
dmoz is good to get on, it is difficult to get inclusion though, I have tried a few times. However, the index is syndicated across the internet - I used to syndicate it a few years ago, so links gained on dmoz get you potential links all over the place.0 -
lol... i need to change the way i write... "no harm" is my way of saying it's a good thing... albeit , my understanding is that it holds less value these days so it's not perhaps as important as perhaps it once was.0

I have never formally submitted a URL via a search engine 'add url' form. If you get inbound links then your site gets spidered naturally anyway (and just as quickly). I used to follow SEO techniques very keenly.. I can't be bothered anymore, so I cannot offer current advice. The one thing that is true though and always will be, is that the content of your site is your friend. If you have lots of decent unique content and keep your site updated then you have a better chance of doing ok in the search engine results pages. That is, if people are interested in what your niche is. If you are not in a niche then it is harder as there is more competition.
So, to sandraa, what is your site all about??????0 -
I got my site to the top 5 on relevant searches by reading some basic advice. Careful thought of things like page names, titles, page content, meta tags (though some confusion as the relevance of these now) did the trick.Happy chappy0

As you’ve said content is king, my experience shows that whilst it not difficult to manipulate search engines and gain a ‘higher than deserved’ ranking the risks are significantly higher. If the algorithms change or it’s blatantly obvious your website is ranking above its pay grade, then you’ll likely to be banned from the search results indefinitely.
It is still a better long term strategy to write relevant original content, written with your targeted traffic in mind and not written for the search engines.
To help the search engines navigate your website easily then the use of good meta descriptions and keywords does make a massive difference, as does a site map.
I guess the ‘secret’ of SEO is that there is no secret, manipulation is a short term solution, but if you want to rise up the rankings you have to earn it by writing a stonkingly good website… after all we can’t all be number 10 -
I followed following steps:
1. Install Google Analytics on your website just to track progress
2. List yourself on google business directories.
3. Try making a small video on Youtube and submit some images on Flickr.
4. Also if you can post some topics on Facebook, Orkut and other Social Networking sites with link backs of course. Try to use keywords plus link to your site. (Dont post fake things as something small in relevant sections is more important than many in irrelevant ones)
5. Use sitemap (xml file) and robots.txt on your site
6. Metatags and keywords are as important as density of keywords in your page content.
7. Use Google webmaster tools to have a look at when google alst crawled your website.
8. Use Alexa ranking to check if you are moving up in rankings or not.
9. If you want to move up change your contents at least weekly basis
10. Try to tell relevant websites about yourself (Directory listings, Blogs, Forums etc)
Remember this usually takes more than 3 months to get at a decent place and stay over there. There are tricks that can bring you on top but those are not consistent in keeping you on top.
Google Analytics can help you see what others are searching when they find your website. Tweak your site accordingly from time to time. Even changing a letter to capital on a single page tells google that contents have been updated. So keep everything ready before google comes to see your site. (You can see on Google webmaster tools when google crawled and when you expect it to).
Alexa ranking might not help if you are below 1,000,000 but to get there you have to know where you are...so submit your details there as well.
I started from step 1 on 28 August and I am in Top 3 on google with two key phrases directly relevant to my site. I have found that links from Youtube and Flickr allows google to look at your site with interest. My Alexa rank was above 17 million on 28th and it has now moved between 5-6 million.
