I don't buy anything from the CS that can't be washed (except books)!
The cost of dry cleaning is often more than the item cost in the CS.
Everything I donate is always washed first.
Went to nearby town today (posher than where I live) and got a pair of new M&S casual trousers for £2. Well pleased.Normal people worry me.0 -

definately serious_saver, i wanted a picnic basket since i fell in love with one in Cath Kidston, but i didn't fall in love with the £199 price tag:eek:.
now i need to figure out how to replace the checked fabric in it for something more me (chintzy / vintage). the bottom bit will be straightforward (i hope!), but not sure on the top bit that holds the plates etc as i'll have to remove the strap things that holds them in place.
if anyone can point me in the right direction on how to do it i would be grateful:D
Me, me, me! I could help. You'll have to post a link with picture showing the the sort of picnic basket though0 -
I always wash what I buy.
I volunteer in a CS and anything that is dirty, smelly or ripped gets put in the rag bag because we dont have the facility to wash clothes.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -

I used clear multi- purpose craft glue. Because it's what I had! Anything strong- ish would do, I reckon, or a hot glue gun? They call me Dr Worm... I'm interested in things; I'm not a real doctor but I am a real worm.0 -
My bargain of the week is a Fisher Price doll's first pushchair/baby walker for £2.50. I have been looking for one since christmas for when I look after my 11 month old granddaughter (3 days a week). She loves it. Have had some great buys since christmas, posh skirts and last week a pair of linen 3/4 lengths that will be lovely for the summer.Slightly bitter0

My cs bargain of the day (and this year) is a lovely pale blue coast cardigan, made of a soft wool material. Fits lovely and looks fab.
Great idea for a thread,

I've been looking for absolutely ages for a cashmere jumper, and finally found one by Brora for £4.50. It had a tiny moth hole in it, but I decided it was worth darning as it was really small. It has repaired beautifully and nobody but me knows it was there! BTW Brora cashmere jumpers cost over £120 new, so I am well pleased. In same shop on the same day I found a lovely M % S soft wool tunic in pink for £4, so did really well.
I am now looking for a couple of books for DD. I usually find what I want eventually, including study books on renaissance art. I don't have a lot of time to look, but try to have a look around at least every couple of weeks. Much more enjoyable than trailing round a soulless shopping mall.

I'm now on the lookout for a pair of men's size 8 leather shoes. There's a young man camped out outside my flat who claims to be being kicked out of him mum's house during the day-time. He wouldn't even tale a cup of tea off me this morning. He looks like he's been sleeping rough and his manky trainers are in a terrible state. Must be so bad for his feet. I can't get round to the CS shops tomorrow so it will have to be Monday now. This feels a bit better than trying to snatch up cheap bargains just for myself to enjoy.0

I also wash everything I buy from CS as they do tend to pick up a particular smell as stated previously by another poster.
I agree with everyone who has posted about being able to have better quality clothes when CS shopping. I have to be very smart for work & for a short time fell into the Primani trap but this worked out quite expensive ultimately as their things don't stand the test regular washing, pressing etc. & still being smart enough for work so I'm sticking to better quality at lower prices & I can also re-donate & buy something else when I fancy a change.
Thanks for the kind offer of the loan of a tea-set PinkTiger. I feel pretty confident that i'll find one to be honest as I've already spotted quite a few with 6 cups & saucers, even one or two with 8, and one set in a second hand shop with 12! but this one sadly had no saucers. Just holding out for a really pretty one as what I''ve seen so far have been quite chunky. I'm not averse to the mix & match idea as you suggested so I think it'll be all good. Nice idea for your wedding party, hope it goes well.
We should have stuck to our local area instead of tootling to a nearby town on Thursday as we have a great variety of good value CS here but friend has been a bit down lately & it cheered her up going for a little run out with me. Not very MSE in respect of the cost of petrol as had to fill up a few days earlier than I needed but I'll jiggle something else around in the budget to cope with that!
Well, it's Saturday today & I'm on a late shift today & an early tomorrow so there'll be no more CS shopping for me this week. Therefore my CS bargain of the week is my lovely Damart thermal vest @ £1 :j
Thanks to all contributors to the thread, I love reading your posts.
Happy shopping. x0 -
That's a lovely thing to do bitterandtwisted. I hope you're successful in your search. Good luck.
