Ok, not often that I post in here, as the charity shops round here are usually wayyyy too expensive for me! But today DD1 & I wandered off to the next town up to the north, and I picked up a fabulous, drop-dead smart pure silk suit in my size off the £1 rail outside one of their charity shops! Real mother-of-the-bridegroom style, which I'm hoping I'll get to wear before too long... I even have a hat that will go splendidly with it.
However most of the other shops had the usual array of Pr1mark & H+M tops for £6.99-£9.99, considerably more than they cost when they were new... depressing!Angie - GC Aug25: £478.51/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -

Perhaps I should mention here the lovely solid pine bookcase, bureau, and chest of drawers all £30-40 each from the Salvation Army furniture recycling (not all on the same day though)A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
I was in an as-yet-unexplored area of West London today, the chazzers were ridiculously expensive.
I did find a good quality summer dress for my darling niece for just £2.50....and another book for me for £1.30. It's a bit higher priced than I would usually buy, but made reference on the cover to being the antithesis of the work by Naomi Klein's "No Logo" (which I already own!), so I guess I was sucked in by the marketing!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I've been hunting for a castle for my grandson ( lovely one in the cs the other day, only trouble was my daughter didn't tell me she was after one!) Anyway, found a Lego medieval castle and pirate boat, all boxed and with instructions for £4.99. Bit more than I usually pay for toys but it is normally about £20-30 so bargain! Most of the bits were there, I had to improvise a bit here and there but my grandson was so happy.0

A Cath Kidston purse BNWT for £5.00 the zipped wallet style in a patchwork effect.
A white linen shift dress for £5.00. The brand escapes me at the moment.A minute at the till, a lifetime on the bill.
Nothing tastes as good as being slim feels.

A few years ago I read in another part of the forum that it is possible to obtain free spare parts from Lego (within reason).
I don't know if this service is still available but the links I noted down at the time were:
http://www.lego.com/eng/service/replacementparts.asp
Tel: 00800 5346 5555 (Free via landline mobiles may charge)
9am - 5pm (GMT) Monday - Friday.
I have not tried it myself but it must be worth a go. Perhaps someone reading this has used the replacement service and can share their experience.0 -
I had no chazzer plans today, but stopped in 2 of my local ones during a walk this afternoon (note to self: next time exercise sans purse!).
I ended up buying 4 books in total, 3 of which were non-fiction, one fiction but had such rave reviews on the back I just had to get it! I broke my max £1/book rule again, as 2 were £1.50; the others £1 each, so £5 in all.
There were other works of fiction I could have bought: instead in a moneysaving attempt, I looked up the images on my phone and P'inned them. My reasoning is you can always find fiction in a good library
ETA: put out a call to action email earlier: heading for Nettlebed with mum, sister and niece on 20th May!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I've been concentrating on donating rather than buying but yesterday I got a nice stripy joules sweatshirt (not my usual thing at all but I'm fancying a change of image even if only temporarily) for £3.50 and a lovely Hobbs denim skirt for £5.
I've just gone back to work after sickness and I'm trying to have a different look for work and home in order to demarcate the two and leave work stress at work0
