I got a pair of Clarks knee length black leather boots in BHF Harrogate this week. Absolutely brand spanking new, not a mark on the sole or heels. They cost me £16.99 but what would I have paid in the Clarks shop?!!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Three books that were just what I'd been looking for at an amazing local project I wandered across this morning called 'Bookcycle'. They collect and pass on to LEDC's text books for use in the classroom as well as offering donated saplings to be planted within the local community. To fund this, they sell other donated books and seeds, and when you find a book - or packet of seeds you would like, you decide how much you'd like to donate. A fiver felt about right for a good paperback novel and two hard backs, and I've taken a flier to share with colleagues at the school I work in, and will try to get some donated text books to take back in. I thought it was a great idea. http://www.book-cycle.org/Reason for edit? Can spell, can't type!0

Not technically this week but I've been lurking around this forum for a long while now and I was so proud of my charity shop buy a couple of years ago I thought I'd share!
The Stokke wooden high chairs which grow with the child, starting as high chair and then eventually an actual chair which sell for approx £120 (without cushions) I found in a local tip shop. It was marked up at £12...I had no change, only a £10 note. Got it for a tenner. Only once I'd paid did I ask them if they knew how much the chairs sold for as new. Needless to say the assistant said she should have done her homework and would do so in the future!0 -
Someone posted a while ago about a good haul in Bourne - was there at the weekend but on Sunday so no luck! Not had anything lately but we're going to the IoW for a few days so might get the chance to have a rummage there. Good hunting everyone
Ooh, I am IoW! If you get a chance to visit any of the Earl Mounbatten shops they all have a £1 rail which sometimes hold some gems. The Newport one is the biggest one I think.:DYummy mummy, runner, baker and procrastinator0 -
A question for the charity shop shopping MSE-ers:
What do you look for that makes you want to shop in a charity shop? Things on sale, layout, pricing?
And equally, what don't you like to see?
I'm asking because I've joined a work team which is taking part in the Marie Curie shop challenge on 9th October. We will be taking over a Marie Curie shop in Belfast and trying to sell as much stock as we can to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.
We're collecting stock like crazy and have loads of clothes, books, games, DVDs, household goods and more. Now we just have to figure out how to make the most of them.
So, with your help, I'd like to make our shop as attractive to customers as possible.
Thank-you0 -
PS: my charity shop bargain of the week was a set of two beautiful etched glass liqueur glasses for 50c each in a flea market on holiday, and a tiny but beautiful floral moulded liqueur glass, also for 50c. Best holiday souvenirs to bring home to Mum ever!0

Imho price is the key factor as money is tight and I'm a sucker for a sale especially a £1 rail.
As regards to layout I don't like things arranged in colour order as type of garment takes priority as I will be looking for a top or trousers not something say for instance in blue or red especially as it takes too long to look through everything.
So if they are arranged by type of garment then in size order within that I'm a happy bunny. As plus size section is a bonus too and as a larger lady 18+ I will always go to the charity shop with the plus size section first.
Hope this helps somewhat. All the best with your new shop. :T0
