What is your charity shop bargain of the week?

I have just got a lovely wool, mohair and alpaca mix coat with a posh label, which fits perfectly and is in good condition. I paid £10, which I was very happy with. This was a local charity - I agree, the 'chains' like BHF etc have got very pricey :eek:0

BHF and Oxfam can be insane prices - £15 for a second hand everyday summer dress!?
Today I got a like-new red and white ski jacket (SOS brand?) for £4.99 (and my OH paid so even better) in the Salvation Army shop on Gorgie Rd, Edinburgh.
The white part was completely mark-free which was what persuaded me to buy it so I guess it's either been well looked after or barely worn.
Edit: I just googled the company and these jackets retail for between £200-£350 new!!!!! I've never heard of the company but it's a Swedish ski wear brand.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Can't match that for a bargain kboss10, but it reminded me that last week I bought for 99p off an Oxfam sale rail, a pair of black salopettes (ski trousers). No intention of skiing, but I cut off the bib and braces, and used elastic from the braces to make belt loops, and now have a lovely warm waterproof pair of trousers for if and when the snow arrives. :snow_grin
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe

Salvation Army shops have been pretty good to me over the years.
In 2008 I bought a pair of pink Converse low tops with multicoloured stars on the inside of the tongue plus a matching star covered satchel style bag from a Salvation Army thrift store in the university district of Seattle for $12 (about £5 at the time).“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Oi!
You've not been in my wardrobe, have you?
I also bought a coat like that - many years ago from our local Flea Market - for 99p.
Actually, it was cheaper than that as they were selling stuff 3 for £2.50.
It's incredibly warm so a great bargain for you.
I'd probably have paid a tenner for it too.0 -

Do you ever look at garments to see if they have buttons you could use?
I've seen some items for 99p/£1.00 in charity shops and the buttons have been worth much more than that.
I think if I'd been offered single buttons for 25p each I'd have raised my eyebrows, although we do have a lovely haberdashery in our town and they have some wonderful buttons but they can be pricey.
I have to admit that I've never heard of charity shops cutting spare buttons off clothes.
Most of the stuff I've bought seem to still have the sdpare button on the washing label.there's a CS near me that I always pop to if I need buttons, as they sell them for about 25p for 4.
When I needed absolutely loads for a project, I went to several jumble sales over a few weekends & bought clothes that had interesting or had lots of buttons on.
I also found that when I was looking for particular ones, some shops were willing to take my number in case any items came in with that type of button.
I also managed to get some from Freecycle.
I've not ever thought to check the garments themselves to be honest with you!
25p for 4 I would be happier to pay, though!
There is a few (9i think) cs,s in a village near me so I'll try thereMummy to ds 29/12/06 dd 10/2/08 ds 25/5/11:Amy angel born too soon 18/11/12, always with me Emmie Faith:A15 projects in 2015 10/15completed0 -
I visited a charity shop that I had never been in before on Saturday. The parking is permit holders only which makes it difficult. I got a beautiful per una dress for £3.50, which made me very happy!0
