Hi
silly really as i could check this, but im at work
How easy is it to pack for 4 nights in hand luggage?? is it a simple task? bear in mind it has to be under 10kg or whatever
also what happens with liquids these days, such as shampoo, are we still not allowed this in hand luggage? toothpaste etc???
also how hard is it to find a suitable cheap bag thats the right size?
my partner is worried , so im tempted to get hold luggage to ease her worrys

Just finishing 5 months travelling with just 10kg of luggage, no problem.
These days even places 'abroad' sell toothpaste and shampoo, it'll cost a lot less than taking luggage.
As for any girly cosmetic bits just tell her you like her just as she is.0 -
I always do tell her that :-)
i just wondered what the crack was these days.
I think i can manage on 10kg0 -

You need to be aware of the 'cardboard box hand luggage size checker'. It is a cardboard box that is the correct size, you place your bag on the floor and they see if they can push the box over your bag.
If you are challenged at the gate for a check and your bag is the wrong size and the box can't fit over it, then you are charged. It is cardboard and so can't push your bag in a bit if it is bulging a bit.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.0 -
A capsule wardrobe is the trick as well as wearing any bulky items. For a 4 day trip, tell your OH that she doesn't need lots of shoes/handbags. Wear one pair and she can pack one other pair
As far a liquids are concerned, the rule is the same as it has been for a few years now. Any gels, pastes, liquids to be under 100ml each and put in a sealable clear plastic bag (20cm x 20cm). A stick deodorant is not classified as liquid so I'd recommend those. Also, if your OH feels the need for make up which is liquid, how about encouraging her to try mineral make up. Not a liquid in sight and it looks good tooOr you could be a complete gentleman and lend her some space in your liquid bag
Please remember that the liquid bags needs to be screened separately.
Oh, and roll your clothes when packing. Avoids a lot of creasing and you'll fir more in. Have a good time0 -
It's only if you buy things to bring back you have a problem. Either don't or have nice friends with bigger bags.0

I went with a group of other women to Marrakech and we all managed with our hand luggage for 4 days. It can be done - especially if going somewhere warm where you don't need too many heavy clothes. Light clothes, and roll them up. For toiletries you can buy small travel sized everything. Not economical maybe but you can save the bottles and reuse them next time.0

I just buy transparent little bottles and decant my usual stuff. We have 2 trolley bags from SportsDirect which cost about £10 each and have used them numerous times with ryanair as hand luggage - mind you haven't come across the cardboard boxes yet! i can manage for over 2 weeks in the summer with hand luggage only mind you I'm not exactly a girly girl and 3 pairs of shoes including what I'm travelling in is enough for me.0

Just picked up one of these today for my flight on Friday. Going for 5 nights and already packed up with loads of room left over. I love the suitcase absolute bargain and only weighs 2.7kg. Lots of reviewers have said its fully Ryanair legal.0

We use rucksacks as hand luggage, they weigh virtually nothing so you can utilise almost all of your 10kg allowance.
Agree with decanting liquids into smaller bottles if you have a particular reason to want to take certain items e.g. specific brand of face moisture cream or you don't want to go shopping when you arrive.
If I'm only somewhere for a few days I'd not want to be looking for toothpaste when I got there, you can buy once through Security but you may have to put your purchases into your hand luggage if the airline has a 'one bag' rule.
As for 'how easy is it' - it really depends whether your partner can pare down her wardrobe to be under 10kgs - only you and her know the answer to that.
The type of holiday, destination and weather will also have a bearing on how much you're likely to want to take.
I managed on 10kgs (including liquids) for 4 nights in January in Barcelona.
As richardw says, it can be an expensive mistake if your bag is either oversize or overweight and has to be put in the hold.0
