I am currently in Lanzarote for 2 weeks using Ryanair with 10kg of hand luggage only..
Wear heavest clothes on journey. Jeans, shoes, top, jumper & jacket.
Backpack containing one weeks clothes (appartment has a small washing machine).+ one pair of footware - backpack weighted 8kg including netbook+charger.
Liquids in 100ml bottles in 20cm square plastic bag. Bigger liquids bought at Boots airside in airport (remembering to leave space in bagpack).
We were not stopped at the gate with backpacks but the man behind us was - he had a normal hard sided wheeled carry on bag. The bag was too big and it had to be checked in for GBP 60.

I got one of those digital scales from ebay for my trips, you won't find scales very easily at your destination, or they will charge you to use them!

I would say no problem whatsoever with 10kg for 4 days, last year we went 10 days to Canary Islands and paid for 1 suitcase, and then realised we could have managed perfectly with the 2 handluggage, as we ended up not using half of the clothes we packed!

Of course it depends on the type of holiday and if you need to dress up for any special event, more than one pair of shoes, things like these..

    Hello all,
Just a reminder that Ryanair Gestapo are going full force into the weighing of handluggage now!!
I have just been on a flight yesterday and they pulled me for being 500grams over!! My hand held weighing scales only said 300g and i thought can they be petty enough for that?? OH YES!!
Luckily, I had been and bought duty free and my electric toothbrush went into that bag.
I walked around the corner though and put them back into my hand luggage, so what have they gained??

please can I ask which airport it was where you were allowed hand luggage plus a duty-free bag? We were able to avail ourselves of this perk last year at East Midlands and then Liverpool but not airports will allow this.

I thought Ryanair had no weight restriction? or is that Easyjet?
I have managed fine for a weeks holiday with just hand luggage with both, so I'm sure you'll be fine for 4 nights :)

It was Liverpool. I once had an overweight suitcase there, it was 16.7kg and they only charged me £20 for being a kilo over. I was told as long as I was 15.9 it is still classed as 15kg. If it went to 16kg that's when you are over. Maybe stupidly that's why I thought I would get away with being over with hand luggage.

When I was working for Jet2.com, we were only able to charge for each full kilogramme over the limit so a bag weighing (for example) 10.9 kg against a limit of 10 kg would not incur a charge.

Unless you are in the habit of carrying a ball gown and tuxedo just in case you are invited to the Ambassador's Ball then clothing is the least of your problems. What takes up space & weight is electronics, books, pills, potions & beauty aids. Crack down on them and you'll have little problem hitting the 10kg limit
