Can orange tell if a customer has blocked someone

Options
Ive been trying to text a friend of mine all day today and Im getting 'Unidentified subscriber' error messages

I phoned Orange to ask advice about it and they asked the number Im texting...

First they said the number wasnt an Orange customer - it is
Then they said its PAYG - its contract
Then they told me the person has a Samsung phone - they dont
Finally they said I cant text them because theyve blocked me

Now I know this person has a Blackberry, so do I and as far as I know theres no way to block a specific number, you can block ALL text messages but as far as I know not just one.

Does anyone know for sure if you CAN block one number on a BB and secondly would Orange actually be able to tell that by looking at the persons account.

I dont want to fall out with someone because of duff info Ive been given.

Im also thinking Orange should not have given me ANY info about my friends account the way they have....

    eh ?
you asked and now throwing it back at them
no wonder companies put people on hold forever, hoping they will go away
  • If you read my post properly youll see Im not throwing anything back. I went on with a general enquiry about an error, they were the ones who asked me my friends mobile number then quite happily gave me information about his account. I didnt ask for it nor need it. My query didnt need them to know my friends details.

But thats not really the point of my post....

Assuming that you mean normal texts, not BBM, AFAIK, in UK networks don't block numbers.
Smartphones can 'block' numbers by ignoring them. Networks cannot know about this.
  • Its just a normal text message. Someone else is having problems sending to the same person as well.

Ive tried to block someone on my BB but its not something Ive managed to find how to do. It can block incoming calls via an app but not texts.

Im assuming Orange cant tell by looking at someones account that theyve blocked numbers etc. Im not sure if the person I spoke to was offering the 'theyve blocked you' as a possible suggestion as opposed to a fact which was how it was really put across.

I have no idea why the texts wouldnt be going through :(

IIRC this problem is actually at your end, have you tried checking Message Centre settings under Options->SMS ? Its normally that there is not setting saved here.

Also Smart Dialling->National Number Length should be more than 9.

Also try a battery pull (i.e. remove the battery, wait a minute and reinsert).

Can you ring this person? Sounds like they've either changed their number or they've been barred for not paying their bill.....
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

I wondered when somebody would ask why the OP does not just ring the person if they are so sure all the other details they posted are correct, perhaps she has changed her mind after the meeting?

Why not just ask the friend if they've blocked you as you're having issues sending texts to them? If they say no, you know it's something else. If they say yes, you'll probably have to stop stalking them ;)

At least you'll know either way.
