    Hi Jemma-T,

Thanks, just had a read through the thread you suggested.

However, I'm not sure if the night mode would sort out my problem....Seconds after receiving my NIGHTLY telephone call, I dial 1471. The call that has just been made to my home is not registered. If someone had called me for example at 6pm, then this is the call that is recognised.

I have a feeling that BT are doing a line check or something similar during the night. As soon as I complained that my caller id hadn't been working for some time, the nightly calls started at the same time every night.

I've checked and doubled checked my phone and I haven't got the alarm set. I'm being paranoid that I'm doing something wrong now :)

BT phoned yesterday and they want to send an engineer out again. The last one that visited said that there was a fault at the exhange. He didn't seem to fix it :( I'm really annoyed that I have to take yet another day off work ..........

Has anyone had this problem? I'm really sick of this as you can imagine.

    Thanks

I feel for you OP. Until it is sorted do you have a mobile that gets a signal in the house? (mine doesn't :().
If you need your parents/whoever to be able to contact you, you could get them to use that number for night time emergencies and during those periods, either disconnect the landline or switch off the bell.
If they find mobile numbers difficult, you could perhaps program their 'phone with a short cut.

    Hi Pineapple,

I've reached the point where I think I'll have to use the mobile at night and disconnect my phone. It's ridiculous that I even have to consider this :(

Thanks for the words of sympathy :)

PS I'm gonna charge BT for the amount of touche eclat I'm going through lol

Night Mode WILL work with any number (or non-number) because if the caller information does not match your category list it will simply not get through. It won't ring but the phone will light up -I hope your nerves have not become that worn a phone lighting up will wake you from your slumber! :)

Also, were this my parents [I see you may have done this partly] I'd buy them a new phone (or 2) which have those VERY large buttons with pre-dial settings and an emergency number button. Set those to your mobile and leave your mobile by your bed at night. That seems -again- an incredibly simple solution which will work immediately.

Obviously, if you go the big button route you'll still have to unplug your landline at night or turn off the ringer volume.

This all sounds like a terrible situation and I'm not sure who can fix it as they obviously don't know their derriere from their elbow.

    Hi Lobster123,

Sorry to hear you are having problems in getting this sorted. It could be test equipment causing you line to ring. I would like to take a look at this for you.

Please could you send me in your details using the link found in my profile?

    Cheers

    Paddy

    Hi,

Many, many thanks. The problem appears to have been resolved and I had a peaceful sleep last night.
Not sure what BT did at their end, but fingers crossed, no more calls :T
  • Only just noticed this thread. I posted about exactly the same problem on MSE - calls to my aunt's phone at midnight!

BT engineers visited my aunt's home twice without resolving the problem. The BT Nuisance Call Bureau would not assist but did say they knew that this type of problem was occurring a lot recently and was down to test equipment on the line.

After a few months of many many calls to BT the problem was finally sorted by BT Openreach at the exchange but I then had to endure further problems because someone at BT ordered phone service in my name at my address following one of my calls to complain about the problems my aunt was having.
