Harrowgate is nice if you are set on moving to the north, if your still looking at Hertfordshire then st albans is a nice town.Snootchie Bootchies!0

But Oxfordshire is v expensive - how much housing stock appropriate to the OP is there?
Otherwise I would have suggested Atrincham, Wilmslow, Hale, Alderly Edge, Poynton etcValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

I've always wanted to live by the seaside, so would be looking for somewhere on the coast if I were in your position. My suggestions: Llandudno or Eastbourne.
Llandudno - nice little town, some crafty places where you could buy bits for your business and might be able to find somewhere to sell your pieces, it's got a cinema / train station and varied property.
Eastbourne - I worked there for a short while and found it a good place to live, not as trendy as nearby Brighton but a medium sized town with opportunities.0 -

Nothing really (still no CBL AFAIK) but private rents are not too scary and once here things are easier - plenty of work for one thing.Truth always poses doubts & questions. I vote Northumberland, the forgotten county between England and ScotlandValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

York!
That's where I'm going.
I second this suggestion. I'm buying a house and moving back there next week in fact! I lived in York for a long time, then moved to Leeds about 5 years ago. I cant wait to get back to York, I love the city.
Leeds is ok for a shopping visit etc but I don't want to live here any longer...
York is also nicer than Harrogate IMO.0 -

They do have council houses in villages in Yorkshire. However in my county, the East Riding, there's a 10 year waiting list for any council house.0 -
Whitby is lovely on the coast - having said that i'm soon off to Northumberland house sale permitting:D0

I think your question is very hard, and no-one can tell you where it's nice to live as it's so subjective. Everyone has their own opinions, likes and dislikes, and no-one on here knows you and what would suit you.
It's impossible to pluck a suggestion out the air!
The only small piece of advice I could offer you is that the weather is generally better down south, sunnier and warmer. Other than that I think you should take some long trips and travel to as many parts of the country that you can, and decide what YOU like yourself.0
