Hello everyone. Welcome to the Weekly Spend Challenge. This challenge is open to anybody, no matter what financial place they are in.

On this thread please post an amount of money you wish to stay below within the week (Sunday to end of working day on Friday). This can be pennies or thousands it depends on the individual. Then next Saturday report back and pledge for the following week. The challenge runs from Sunday to Friday so we don't include Saturdays but feel free to change the rules to suit you and include Saturdays or start on a different day.

Feel free to update this thread with daily spends if that keeps you on track. We colour code the results as below:

Green - within budget
Red - overbudget
Purple - zero spend
Orange - made money over the week

This is a little bit of fun but for many it highlights the fact that maybe that magazine/chocolate bar isn't needed. Hopefully your spending habits can be changed forever.

Moozie was the founder of this challenge and here is a quote taken from her:

The challenge is about incidental spending and not for stuff that should be budgeted elsewhere such as bills, groceries, debt repayment etc but you decide what to include at the end - this is about changing your habits and improving your recording of your spends more than anything else. Have a great week everyone and keep it low!!! Moozie x"

Good luck everyone.

    Morning all,

My week got rather chaotic after the beauty night as I went for a few drinks and didn't get home until midnight. I had a great night but definitely blew the budget. I am in London this weekend for my sister's birthday and don't get back until late tonight so I am using a "foreign" computer so the formatting on the first post looks a bit weird. I will fix it when I get back to my own computer tomorrow night.

Let me know any results and pledges and I will update. I am going for £40 this week I don't think I have anything planned but things do crop up!

LC I can cover the thread while you are away, thank you so much for covering the last few weeks. Sorry to hear things have not been great for you but I do hope your SA trip helps.

I am going to pledge £10 for the week as i have a busy work week but not a busy social one.

Hope you start to feel better soon LC. It sounds like you are having a rough old time. Its good to know the Dr and your work understand and are supporting you.

    Have a good week all.

    Hey guys

Thanks for the good wishes. Just realised I haven't pledged this week, so I'll go for £10 please. Already spent £2.95 today on naughty treats to nibble

    Good morning everyone!

Pointy - Thanks for this week's thread! :T

I was AWOL last week, as it was a big spendy one with pressies to buy and insurance to fork out for etc ... insurance has risen by approx 25% even though I haven't made any claims - I shopped around but was surprised to find that my renewal quote was the cheapest - even with a 25% increase on last year!

Anyway, things are back to normal here, so I'd like to pledge £60 for this week please - thank you Pointy! :T

Sorry to hear that you've been having a rough time LC! (((Hugs)))

Have a good week everyone, and good luck staying within budget!

  • Hi everyone
Sorry I disappeared off for the past few days... the doctor has upped my migraine medication and I'm taking a bit of getting used to it unfortunately.
I blew my budget last week on a takeaway and beer, and spent a grand total of £18.80, so very red for me unfortunately.
I'm pledging £20 for this week, hoping for less.

    Hi guys,
Although I joined this forum in 2010 it is only now that I am posting for first time.
I would like to pledge £10 for this week for groceries - I am living with my partner and we have lots and lots of canned and frozen goods that needs using so I think this is just fantastic idea.
    I am jumping with excitement!
