OP, have you phoned Royal Mail with the tracking number, sometimes they have more info their end than is loaded onto the website.
  • Every time I get no signature, I put in a claim and get my postage back (actually, they usually just send a book for 1st class stamps as an apology).

For this reason I rarely use the service for sending.
As for receiving, I very rarely get offered chance to sign for recorded parcels.
    Useless service IMHO

That's your personal experience. Therefore anecdotal and not really useful.
Solicitors. letting agents, some ebayers who send 500 packets a week. have all sent by recorded week in week out in offices I have run.
    Are they all mugs?
Everyone decides for themselves how to post. But members on this forum insist on giving out info based on nothing more than what they read on here.
There are 50 million items of post a day.
But half a dozen little ebay businesses know it all.
Recorded delivery is a waste of money......but people dont know that because they are fooled into thinking it is a secure service. It is not.

It costs 77p and offers no extra service other than the attempt at getting a signature.....no extra insurance included. All items are insured up to £46 anyway with normal proof of posting.

Recorded delivery is not tracked either.

Lastly, I have several items sent to me over the Christmas period with recorded delivery paid for on them. Not one of them did I sign for.
Postmen often dont bother if they are in a hurry.

Recorded delivery does not make your item safe as it goes through the system exactly the same as normal mail. If you want a special service, that is tracked, insured and definitely not delivered without a signature, then you need special delivery.

So from that comment, is it safe to assume that you have never posted anything relating to your personal experiences?
    No.
Here's just a few of your personal anecdotal experiences which you felt the need to pass on to other people, and the first one is your experience of a postal method which is the very same thing you attempted to berate soolin for.
Why bother including it in a post if it's not really useful?
As a matter of fact, ISF is trackable on the greek postal website. I used to work for a Greek company and always sent letters ISF, and they were always signed for
Bit of a sweeping title to the post. I've just bought two shirts, new and tagged, for 99p plus £1.99 postage
    .
It doesn't matter when an item is returned. I've occasionally had a request for a return without entering in to a dispute.

All your personal experiences, all anecdotal, therefore all totally worthless.
  • An awful lot of the replies, advice and suggestions given by people on these boards is as a concequence of something that has happened to them and it would be hard, if not impossible to be backed up with factual evidence.

This makes their replies anecdotal and personal, but possibly still of use to other MSE members who may be having a similar problem to the personal experience being given.

Yet what is contained in your very next sentence?
Solicitors. letting agents, some ebayers who send 500 packets a week. have all sent by recorded week in week out in offices I have run.
    That's right. Your personal experience.

Just had a recorded delivery item delivered with my normal mail , unsigned for as usual. This was an eBay sale from a new seller , the item cost me 99p plus £1.50 postage and it came with a total of £1.69 postage including the recorded element.

So exactly what has that seller gained?

I can sell item on at £5 ish plus I'll charge £1 postage as 2nd class will cost me 92p

I used to email sellers to say I had the item but tracking still showed it in transit so they ought to claim their 77p back, but I haven't been bothering lately. Maybe I should start again.

How successful is this? I still send most items recorded as they fall under £46 and I've always figured that if there was ever a paypal/ebay dispute issue and I didn't have ttracking proof despite sending recorded I'd be covered through RM regardless of how long it took.

Anyway, I've sent 100's of recorded items and not had any issues to deal with but probably 40-50% of them never had a signature so could I potentially claim for them? More specifically how far back can you claim?

I used to get a book of stamps for every one unsigned for- so it is worth doing.I believe you cna claim back 6 months worth, but I am not 100% sure about that
