Laptop screen not loading

Friend had a laptop with a similer problem, found that booting without the (old) battery it worked fine (faulty charging chip?)
However your earlier post about being able to make out a faint screen, is typical of an inverter issue.0 -
How much does an inverter cost to replace?
It's really odd because when I connect it to the external monitor and then disconnect it, both times it comes up clearly (the screen) on the laptop, then transfers the screen onto the external monitor and turns off on the laptop. The colours on the laptop whilst it stays on are normal as if it is working properly, and not faint.Pink is so not my colour :undecided0 -

Thank you for your response. How much should I pay for someone to fix it on top of that price (a reasonable price)?
An update to what happened today. I turned the laptop on, it's showing as really faded so am shining a lamp onto it to give some sort of vision but it is still straining. Was about to call a repair shop when the laptop screen suddenly became normal, but this lasted only a few seconds, then flashed and went back to faded. Would this be an inverter issue for sure?Pink is so not my colour :undecided0 -
It's cheaper to change the inverter than the screen so start with that and if the problem is resolved then it's fixed. However, if it continues to behave the same way then you'll probably need to change the screen - can be done diy as long as you have abit of patience and a small Philips screwdriver and a small flathead.0

I'd be inclined to replace the LCD ribbon cable at the same time as replacing the inverter, as they are prone to failing. How do I add a signature?0

I don't mind taking my laptop apart but am afraid I will do something worse to it. Do manuals come online for these things?
How much is the lcd ribbon cable? Can't locate any on eBay.
The computer guy said they charge £20 for labour and £30 for the inverter (but I'd supply my own) but he said that might not be the problem, if it is the screen it can be another £80. I a probably better off doing it on my own in that case. I don't mind using an external monitor but right now I'm back at home and don't have one.Pink is so not my colour :undecided0 -

(instructions are to replace a damaged screen on an Acer laptop (not for your specific model), but you should be able to follow the steps and adapt if necessary.)How do I add a signature?0 -
I'm thinking it's time to buy a new laptop. Have so far bought two chargers, a power socket thing (that you do soldiering with), got it fixed for £35, snd then adding these two items takes it to more than £100.
Will the rest of my laptop suffer if the screen doesn't work and I use an external monitor?Pink is so not my colour :undecided0 -
No, using an external monitor will not affect the workings of the laptop, just make it less portable. How do I add a signature?0
