Laptop screen not loading

I've been having this problem with my laptop for a week and does not happen all the time but I'm not sure what the issue is.
It started off with one day, I turned on the laptop and the screen didn't show (black screen) although I knew the laptop was on. Kept turning off the laptop and pressing the power button again but nothing. I googled and thought to take out the lead that was plugged in from the laptop. This time when I powered the laptop the screen showed up as normal. I then placed the charger in and it worked fine.
At other times, when I put the charger back in, the screen would turn off again.
This made me think it was the charger.
However, today I was getting the same problem, so I took the charger out to turn the laptop on but the screen still didn't load.
At times when I have put the charger in after the laptop was fully on and I had logged in, I would put the charger in as I normally do, then sometimes I would accidentally move the laptop from its still position and the screen would turn off.
Not sure what the problem is but I've had this laptop a few years and don't really want to buy a new one.

What make / model?
HP Envy's for example need a bios update to fix this known problem with them.0 -
It's a Acer Aspire 5735Z.Pink is so not my colour :undecided0

If you move the lid slightly, does the screen go off (or if off, come on) ?How do I add a signature?0

It does sort of flicker, yes. But not always.Pink is so not my colour :undecided0

I'd say it is either
A stuck lid sensor pin, these aren't common and I don't know if your Acer has one.
More likely, the inverter is dying. If you press along the bottom of the screen (on the plastic bit) does it have any effect?
You can replace the inverter and/or the lcd fairly easily but the cost of the inverter might be that you might as well buy a new laptop.0 -

I pressed the plastic part and nothing happens. For now my screen is fine but it doesn't turn it off or make it flicker when I press the plastic part right now.Pink is so not my colour :undecided0 -
Shut it down overnight and then try again tomorrow from cold.
I'm still willing to bet that unless its a bios/power saving driver issue (unlikely given your other posts) that its due to a failing inverter.0 -
I'd go with either the inverter or the LCD ribbon cableHow do I add a signature?0

Update for today.
First time I turned laptop on it was fine.
A few hours later when I went to turn the laptop on (with the charger in the laptop as always/normal) I could only see a black screen. After multiple attempts (more than other times) it finally showed the normal screen and at times flickering. This was a few minutes ago (when I finally got the laptop screen) and right now it's not flickering. Charger is not in this time I turned on the laptop (and a number of times before that too when it wouldn't turn on).Pink is so not my colour :undecided0 -
After pressing submitted I did get a second of the screen flickering, not sure if it is the way I was leaning on the laptop (not much) but it did flicker if it helps with any information on what to do with my laptop.Pink is so not my colour :undecided0
