So those over 65 are not fit enough to water their gardens without a hosepipe, would someone please point this out to the government who are going to make everyone carry on working then after this age!!!!!!!!!! Or is that they will just be so knackered after work that they can not be expected to then start lugging buckets of water around!!!!!.0

I agree. So if it isn't the garden that is exempt but the 'waterer' then there is nothing stopping those over 65 going round house to house watering their gardens for £20 a time!!
Hey what a damn good scheme. Cash in hand, no tax!!!
On the other hand if say the wife is over 65 and the husband say 60, does it mean that the wife has to water the garden to get the exemption?
If so, old Flo ain't going to be too pleased!!!

So... I could ask my parents, who are over 65, to come round to my house and use my hosepipe to wash my car?
Also, not related to disability, but I always wondered what the authorities would do if you stuck your shower spray out the window to water the garden beneath? Would that be allowed?0 -
It's not all over 65s and not all disabled. All disabled BB holders and over 65 are NOT exempt UNLESS the local water authority state so. http://www.hosepipeban.org.uk/2012/03/21/disabled-and-over-65s-hosepipe-ban/“How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.”0

South East Water published its hosepipe rules in "The Battle Observer" (local paper) last week, and it states clearly that over 65s may continue to use a hose for watering plants, but not for washing cars, filling swimming pools etc. I believe they are the only water company with this exemption, therefore over 65s everywhere else within the ban must not use a hose.0

And it strikes me that any water company like South East, who has allowed an exemption for Blue Badge holders is leaving themselves wide open to action under the Equality Act - Surely all disabled people under the act are entitled, BB notwithstanding?0 -
I was only speaking to my OH today about this. My water company allows hosepipes to be used by those with sever mobility probs and/or hold a valid blue badge. That OH sitting on his roller watering the garden this summer then. Thanks for the heads up OP.0

My friend has 'a bad hip' .(recovering from hip replacement, anticipating a second op) She managed to get a Blue Badge, in spite of the application stressing that the disability must be severe and permanent.
Now she tells me gleefully that she can water her garden as much as she likes. Where is the logic that decrees that her garden will flourish and her neighbour's garden will die?
There are plenty of people with neck, back or foot problems, who equally cannot lug heavy buckets of water around. There are also blue badge holders, such as my friend, who can afford to pay for a gardener.
Thames Water may be putting on the 'caring' hat, but this blanket exemption of blue badge holders, regardless of their circumstances, is a slap in the face to many.0 -
I agree with you, £sp. I am in receipt of DLA but I don't see why that means that my garden can be watered while the ones either side can't!0

Not as straightforward as many people are trying to imply.
For instance the South East Water website states this:
Exemptions:
ii) watering a garden attached to a domestic dwelling or watering plants on domestic premises using a hosepipe, by people with severe mobility problems who hold a current Blue Badge as issued by their local authority;
I believe that there has been a huge hooha about these exemptions and many of the water companies have updated their websites recently to confirm the details of what is happening in their area.
To be honest, although I believe the water companies have been negligent in their inability to provide a water supply, I would expect people to do the 'sensible thing' and not take advantage of the exemptions. There are quite hefty fines for those who abuse the system.0
