Lots of cheap diesels around with DMFs and a couple with DPF's also.

A diesel is meant to sound like a bus or a tractor, Anythiing quieter is not normal and needs fixing :)

  • Ugh dont mention DMFs! The one on my Mondeo has already taken out a starter motor and is making a rather frightening TINGing noise... Another reason I want to chop the car in for something else.

Petrol Mondeos of that ilk has no DMF as far as I remember, what you need is a small petrol car that does 45 mpg +, ie a 2002 Honda Jazz, crashy suspensions but if the mpg is all you can think of I would consider.

Did you not see the thread of the person who bought a used car from a dealer and the dpf needs changed at 75K at a cost of £1000..... that poster is now going to have the hassle of a possibly unscrupulous dealer not wanting to pay for the problem.

That was me, and in the end the fault turned out to be the egr valve, which the "unscrupulous" dealer replaced for free (that part alone is around £200). Car has been fine since.
