Virgin want £37 month for 30mb cable service. Reasonable?

Just got off the phone from Virgin sales, who have quoted £37 monthly (up from £26) to upgrade the broadband part of my bundle from 10mbs (L service) to Superhub/30mbs (XL service).

Rest of bundle :Phone line is M and TV is XL. Phone is £13.90 monthly and TV is £26. I am a cable customer.

Are they taking the mickey?

so your total package price would be £76.90? with or without tivo?
Yes that sounds like a lot given that with tivo it's £63.40 a month for that package for a new customer. are you sure you got the price right as broadband XL + phone M alone should only be £32.40 p/m including line rental..
As I posted in the retention thread I'm now getting all that with tivo for about £48 a month so they should be able to do better than that!

    No Tivo I have a V+ box

Definitely right price, currently pay £65.90 for bundle of phone (M), TV (XL) and Broadband (L = 10mbs). Sales person went away to consult and came back and said to keep same phone and tv deal and upgrade broadband to 30mbs would increase monthly bill to £76.90.

very poor value then and in your position I would definitely be cancelling and waiting for them to call you with an offer, and then push for a big credit to make up for how long you've been paying over the odds...
I'm guessing you're out of contract and this is quite an old package dataing from when 10mb was more expensive..

go through with the disconnection - and wait the callback, this is the only way to get a great deal on an out of contract bundle.

    Why are you doing this?
You will be upgraded for free later in the year anyway so I don't see the point!

Because we are being throttled when we stream in the evenings - my OH is keen baseball fan and watches live streamed matches on a weekday evening during the baseball season. The live baseball stream has recently been upgraded to HD and a game can last three hours.

If I also stream storm chases live (my interest) from the US, that uses up our daily allowance (1500mb) between 4-9 pm and we are throttled/traffic managed whatever by 75% back for 5 hours which at 10mb leaves us with 2.5mb at peak periods. Not enough to live stream. I spoke to the Virgin tec who seemed to be unaware that even streaming iplayer HD shows takes up 3.5mbs (according to BBC website).

We are due to be upgraded sometime in July, too late for this years baseball or storm chasing season. To be honest I was also expecting if I phoned to discuss usage they might offer a discount given current deal is very overpriced in my view. Instead they proposed a price increase............

The Op keeps opening new threads and revealing different information in each one - refer to these (I gave up trying to figure it out a while ago as its spread across multiple threads)

    Ah , I see!
I think VM stop the throttling at 9pm , so if you can somehow postpone your streaming/downloading until then (or thereabouts!) , you should avoid it altogether!

Better to join an ISP that doesn't throttle and offers unlimited downloads. Try Xilo or Vivaciti
