I don't know how RM got away with this
Its the small to medium sellers who suffer here
larger sellers can use Tracked and be covered with the gain of the best tracking RM has

They upped the credit by 5p last year on books

Which was down to Vat going up (£2.80 of which the seller gets £2.31 if they are not pro-sellers or registered with the Vat-Man)

Not really on topic but books are largely zero rated so there would be no VAT on Royal Mail postage (unless it's a service that already carries it and I doubt that would apply for most books sold on Amazon).

It's always worth pointing out that books don't carry VAT, at least for another year.

If you are a royal mail business then yes you cant claim for any losses unless its a fukky tracked service. However if you are a franking business customer and dont use a tracked service, YOU CAN CLAIM. We claim for around 3-5 lost items a month and from JAN 12 we started to get letters back from royal mail saying we could not claim as we did not use a tracked service. I telephoned their customer services and told them that they was wrong as i am not a royal mail business customer,(we use pitney bowes for out franking machine). they agreed taht i was right and have paid out on all my claims so far this year. I was told that my claims had been dealt with a temp member of staff taht did not fully understand the rules. If thier staff dont fully understand the rules then how can members of the public understand them.
On price rises, only royal mail business customers know what the charges will be, but personal customers taht buy stamps and franking customers still dont know what prices will be and is all guess work for now.

sorry I wasn't clear in my posting by Business customers I meant account holders not franking or stamping businesses

Books don't carry Vat, but Amazon's postage fees carry Vat. So you get a credit of £2.80 but unless your a business registered for Vat you only get £2.31 as Amazon kindly takes a bit for the Vat man.
  • . . still checking - apparently they would be up "from today" - might just buy a chunk of 1st's & 2nd's in advance . .

Ofcom have announced that there will still be a cap on 2nd class of 55p, but 1st and other services will be uncapped. New prices will come into force in about 2 weeks, as already suggested here.

    From the BBC website:

A first-class stamp will rise in price from 46p to 60p from 30 April

A second-class stamp will go up from 36p to 50p

So 14p on each 1st and 2nd class stamp; that is a BIG increase. Make 100% sure you adjust your postage prices of you are going to be £££ out of pocket.
