Personally I reckon the garage deserves some kind of award because they have handled this perfectly well without you having to flex any legal muscles. No doubt though, the person who originally serviced your car has had his !!!! kicked big time.
Your closing sentence suggests that unfortunately, you know that this outcome is not typical of car dealers!
I think a thank you letter to the garage is in order.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -

I cannot fault the way the garage has dealt with the problem/s and I said previously that having not named them when the problem arose I would be happy to post their name on the www with due praise for their endeavours to resolve the problems. At their request I will not name them, but speaking with the manager this week I said I will send a letter to the head office to acknowledge the excellent behaviour of the company and their respective employees.
The mechanic resposible for the error was relatively newly qualified, he never made any attempt to evade responsibility for what happened which is more than can be said for the "temporary" manager with his "Not our responsibility, it's just coincidental" remark! The mechanic has been penalised and I have spoken to him. He accepts the penalties of his error (albeit the work done was countersigned by a 'senior'. The temporary manager, I believe has been dismissed.
Since the unfortunate incident, I took my car to them for previously arranged MOT and agreed work on the brakes and this was carried out with no problems. The Toyota will go back to them next month for an MOT. I have no reason to doubt that all work will be carried out as required. They were always fair and decent in the past.
I've been a driver for nearly fifty years (omg)! and have learned quite a lot about cars but, I don't profess to know it all and therefore I'm happy to ask for information from those who do know before proceeding with a problem, hence my first post on this thread.
What I do know is that being polite and reasonable when a problem occurs and giving people the opportunity to resolve the problem is far more beneficial than going in 'all guns blazing' from the onset. If the need arises, I can and will become more forceful but thankfully in this situation it wasn't necessary.
I'm sure, in equal measure neither the garage or my daughter wish that this hadn't happened, but it did and the outcome for my daughter is good and the garage have paid a costly price.0
