Maybe someone here can help me....
Iv turned down the temp outlet of my boiler by a few degrees and was planning on turning my immersion thermostat right up so, in theory, when I'm generating excess power and its diverting to the immersion heater then this should keep topping up the hot water , therefore preventing the boiler from firing up unless a large quantity is used.
Problem being - when I removed the immersion heater cover yday there appears to be two stats both ranging from 1-5, anyone shed some (sun) light on what the two are for? FYI iv turned them both up to full for now.
    Cheers guys.

Cheers Lego. How are you receiving your free hot water then? I'm using a solic 200 , only mention it because no one else seems to have one!

if you have solar pv and want to use unused power that would be exported, to heat your hotwater or heater ect.
but dont want to use imported leccy when you are using more than you are producing ie.
say you are exporting 1.5kw- 4kw and want to use it say running a heater when you are out
light switch or current switch will turn on your heater but if you turn on say a kettle you will now be using imported leccy (not good)
this system turns off the heater if you are using more leccy than your production so if its a bright day your heater turns on untill a cloud comes over or you turn on a kettle or tumble dryer
then when kettle has boiled the heater turns back on again
you can build the device for around £15 if you are good at diy
if you want to know more about it message me and ill try and explain better

    update:

if you have your leccy meter a long way from your heater and if you dont want to run a wire to the controller this can be done with a transmitter and reciever for an extra £12ish

I'm using energysavingexp's idea. Been using it for almost 2 years now with no problems:T

Hiya shavy. Some one will be along soon who knows what they are talking about. But I remember reading this (and specifically dials from 1-5) about a year ago. I can remember the forum, and the poster's name, but he has over 800 posts now, so I can't track it down.

However, in brief, one dial was for the boiler, and one for the immersion. He turned the boiler setting down (lower temp), and the immersion setting up (higher temp), so the PV re-directed as much as possible, whilst the boiler only did the minimum when there wasn't enough sun.

Me again shavy, I don't like giving up. Here's the thread, I knew I'd read 1-5 before, see Dan_B's reply #141

    Mart.

Cheers! Whatta guy! Exactly what I was lookin for. So it seems I need to turn one stat down a bit and leave the immersion stat full up for maximum efficiency.
    Perfect! Thanks all.

Well, after generating over 20 kWh a couple of days ago I'm despondent to report today's generation of 3.6 kWh. The wonderful world of solar.
