Yes that is the British interpretation of the expert person legislation from the EU.
As demonstrated above it is perfectly possible to join up the wires using a DIY manual.

Has this poster gone off grid and thus avoided the standing charges?
I am finding it difficult to understand how this installation can save £22 a month.even if it could use the grid to "store" the spare daytime production.

I don't think he was attributing the £22 pcm DD reduction solely to the SPs ! No doubt (as is true for most of us) his greater awareness of electricity usage will have resulted in turning off unnecessary appliances and concentrating usage to periods when at least some of the electricity is free.

Nobody said it saved £22 a month, just that the DD was reduced by £22 a month; the account could have been hundreds of pounds in credit for all we know.

There's no such indication in the quote from a quote . . . Short of looking through all the posts I couldn't begin to guess.

But remember the old legal maxim : "Man embraces woman" !

In John's defence I read it that way too:

"SP have just reduced my direct debit by £22 per month so I'm very happy"

I thought SP meant solar panels. Doh!

Another mediocre day of cloud, just 1/3 O, but it all adds up.

    Hi

It's not the text "I have all the children trained to alert me when the meter is 'red' - mummy, mummy, do the hoovering!! " which I took as being any form of definitive proof, it's the 2013 aim to "declutter" as used in the signature .... MrsZ's always using the word, so I obviously associate it with the feminine form .... :D;)

Hi, Just read the above - he is indeed a she. And SP is Scottish Power not solar panels - sorry for the poor wording. The £22 reduction is a mixture of solar panels and awareness and the triplets being at nursery school so less daytime usage - together with life.......

Panels were bought off e*ay in 3 pairs as was the inverter. I was told by
one seller they sometime have a couple left over if when they come to do the job they can only fit 12 instead of 14. As they are all matched the extra two become spare. It doesn't matter to my set up. I think I paid £100 each but they seem cheaper sometimes. I only had to go 4-5 miles to collect though

The inverter was also from e*bay - £200

    Cable was from a carboot - £8

Other bits, brackets, wood, etc - £50

I'm told the system would not pass the FiT test as it is not on a permanent fixture i.e. a chicken run and shed but once started it has never cut out so it seems OK

The inverter is in another shed which I never look at. I monitor usage with an Owl meter and I know this isn't accurate at low levels, however, the highest reading we ever saw in August was 1.158kw but generally it's around 600w for a few hours. In November the average seems to be 150w and for a shorter time (low sun and farmers trees) Waiting for leaves to finally go!

TBH I'm not so bothered about the saving / payback so much as the interest and awareness it has instilled in my children, that's what's worth it.

aims for 2014 - grow more fruit and veg, declutter

My first day's results for my add ons goes something like this

    ESE 2kwp 1.4kWh
    SSW 2kwp 3kWh
    WNW 2.5kwp 1.1kWh

    A grand total of 5.5kWh (0.84 O's)

My garage SSW system has never beaten my ESE by double, whether this is anything to do with retro fitting the SE inverter and PO's i don't know but the weather has been similar most of the day so its certainly off to a good start:D

Fair play to you, well done........keep posting results, even if on a monthly basis which will make the Owl slightly closer to accuracy...
