On my meters, I pretty well certain it is one red flash per watt, ie 17 flashes per minute is about the extra you get from turning on a 1 kW kettle.

Info I had may be incorrect, but hopefully we are talking about the generation meter: if your meter flashes 17 times per minute when you are producing 1 watt, then it should be flashing 17,000 flashes per minute when you are producing 1Kw ? A strobe ? From The meter I have, this is the Jargon:-
    Pulse Output 100ms pulse 100 p /kWh
I read that as 1 pulse per 10 watts, 100p/1000Wh may be wrong but not often...:rotfl:

    0.000000 kWh today.... no pulse...smiley-char020.gif

Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).
  • 1000 imp / kWh on both the generation and the importing meter so presumably we have different types of meter ? Even with the extra flashes, I can die of boredom waiting for the flash in present generating conditions :D

It looks very like this picture but my one is branded Landis & Gyr (see below) I used to have one of these as my importing meter, but following the little local difficulty caused by the installers not understanding TT wiring and the general stress of trying to go backwards, I now have a big chunky job which incorporates a time clock that can be controlled remotely. This new "spy in the cupboard" (?) makes strange occasional noises reminiscent of scenes of telephone tapping in cold war films . :rotfl:

Looking at the forecast for Cardiff for the next 24hrs mate you'd better get ready for a few more zero's:eek:

Well, you ain't wrong. More snow this morning - where did that come from? More Meerkat'ng, lots of shiny panels, but no generation yet, very thick white sky still.

Weirdly, my front system which I can't reach is already clear again. The snow keeps sliding off the BoB's (black on blacks)!!!! I'm guessing it's just down to the location WNW. Normally the weather hits from the SW into the front of the house, but this snow has been arriving from the East and piling up deeper on the ESE systems.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

My 3.8 kWp array consists of two rows of 10 panels arranged in portrait fashion, each row connected as a separate string into a 3.7 kW inverter. Today, the snow had accumulated at the bottom of the lower string, having slumped from the upper string and the upper part of the lower string, obscuring less than 20% of the lower string.

Cheers phsci, that's very interesting. Not sure if it's as simple as this, but I was once told that a panel will be shut down by shading if an entire row / column of cells is shaded (or covered in thick snow and ice). That seems to fit with your observation.

Yes, both different meters, mine is:-

Aurora is definitely only powered by DC; so sleep easy.
    Elster Pulse rate 10Wh = 1 flash.;)
From what I gather trying to compare Volts to Watts is like trying to work out the weight of a mile.:rotfl:

Our BoB's (black on blacks) are clear of snow as are another identical set about a mile away but another PV array NOT BOBS, same direction and tilt as ours are holding the snow. Is there a reason for this?
Are our panels supershiny, less metal surround to hold the snow???

  • Your roof has thin insulation?
The other house is empty and when the owners get back next weekend they will be greeted by a burst pipe ?

Our roof is well insulated and there was snow all around the panels but not on the panels.
    Exactly 4 kWh today.

I see everyone is hanging back on their fantastic high numbers:D
Ok, I will set the 'bar' 0.0000000000. kWh
Such low Gen. this month todate 35.7kWh has brought my savings on Leccy use down to only 12.52% smiley-sad029.gif From Nov - 22 Jan 15.51%
