Also, many (most?) domestic battery offerings will have a way of providing power in a power cut, such as a simple AC socket into which you could plug say, lights, or a phone charger, torch charger etc etc to help deal with the situation.
I suppose I should try and keep up with the technology so that in the event of requiring a new inverter in a few years time, I can consider the broader picture. At the current price and my minimal usage of electricity outside of daylight hours it wouldn't pay me to have a battery, but things may change over time.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14

Just a tad better than yesterdays result...0.8 O's....2.5 kWp PV system, SSW facing, 45 Deg Roof. ABB Inverter, Monitor: 'Wattson'.
Reg. for FIT Nov 2011. "It's not what you generate; it's how you use it that matters". One very clean Vauxhall Diesel Sri, £30.00 Road Tax:
Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).0 -
A positive mix again today, 0.96 O's (5kWh's into the Leaf) just nudging us ahead of average for December.:)East coast, lat 51.97. 8.26kw SSE, 23° pitch + 0.59kw WSW vertical. Apologies, I should have mentioned cost, and islanding inverters and batts are expensive, and as you say not economical for most people. Personally, I wouldn't consider either just for power cuts, as that's a sledgehammer to crack a nut problem for most. But of course for some, an uninterrupted supply might be very important.
I was just waffling about what is out there. Fun times.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
