With today's generation of 13 kWh, I've calculated that we're now around £500 away from payback time where the cost is paid for by FIT and electricity. Not bad for an installation in Nov 2011 and will tie in with my initial predictions of a payback time of under 5 years.

According to my calcs if all goes to plan then break even will happen during June so lets hope for a few sunny months to come!

Is that just from generation or does it include leccy savings as well?

Just descaled our travel kettle this morning and noticed that it is 800 watt and not 1kw. Why I thought it was a 1kw I have no idea.

Weather not looking too good this morning but it appears to be brightening up. Currently generating 532 watts so had to light the stove for a cuppa this morning. :D

    Edwink ;)

Did you know that I ran an experiment with the relative costs of boiling water and found that for me (gas at about 2.5p and elec at 10p) the stove top kettle was only 10% cheaper. So to my thinking - if there is any spare electricity at all then the travel kettle is the better option unless you need/want to the extra heat in the kitchen. My base load is around 200w so for me 500w would warrant the travel kettle.

It's from both generation and electricity

Went to car boot and didn't see any travel kettles. There is always next Sunday though.

    What about:

Although I wouldn't want to be seen as encouraging travel kettles - I'm yet to be convinced on payback of them.
