Now that is the difference between a SSW facing system and an SSE facing system! I'm lucky to get more than a couple of hundred at that time.

Edit: Mind you, having said that, I'm still getting about 200W now, which is pretty unusual.

Down to 500W at the time of posting, can't be ***** to take a picture, believe me.:)
2.5 kWp PV system, SSW facing, 45 Deg Roof. ABB Inverter, Monitor: 'Wattson'.
Reg. for FIT Nov 2011. "It's not what you generate; it's how you use it that matters". One very clean Vauxhall Diesel Sri, £30.00 Road Tax: B)

Definition of 'O's = kWh/kWp (kWh = your daily & accurate Generation figure) (kWp = the rated output of your PV Panels).

Gutted to get back from holiday and find that the inverter stopped with an error on the day we left. 2 weeeks of prime August generation lost :(

All it took was a turn off for 10 mins, then back on to resolve it but as we were away we had no idea till we got back and found generation meter had not increased. I reckon we lost around 180kWh of electricity so nearly £100 in FITs and electric savings.

Inverter had no previous problems so moral of the story is that it is worth routine checks to make sure all working ok!
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

Pretty scary that that can happen - do you know what caused it? Mine's never done it. You say that the moral is to make routine checks but what could you have done?

  • Sorry to hear that jimjames and thanks for the warning. Just out of interest what was the error and what model inverter do you have? Might it have been triggered by a power cut?

Happened to me twice, both times the MCB for the SB1200 has tripped, but the SB2500 was fine (they both go into a separate CU before the TGM).

First was a flash power cut, just a flicker of the lights. The second was when the power was cut to install the extension. Both times I missed it for a day, before flicking the MCB back up.

    Mart.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.
