Does anyone use a Rachel Allen yogurt maker?

Options
I normally make my yogurt in the slow cooker but it has been a bit hit and miss due to the colder weather.

I have seen the Rachel Allen maker for sale locally at £12 so thought I would ask how good this one is before deciding to buy one.

Is the yogurt quite thick and would anyone who has this recommend buying this make.

Ta.

I'd be interested to know this too. I was thinking about buying one last year when they were on offer in Robert Dyas but couldn't find any reviews.

Yep, I know 'Google is your friend' and all that :D , I have tried and didn't get much back.

    ;)

Anyway, bought one this morning, used a carton of semi Moo milk, 2 tbs Yeo Valley Natural as the starter and 2 tbs milk powder.

It says 10 hours for this type of milk so should be ready at 10pm.

I am used to the taste as I usually make this in the slow cooker, it is the thickness I am more interested in.

If anyone has any cash and carry warehouses nearby, give them a ring as I bought mine for £11.99 (£9.99 pre VAT).

Our local c & c is open to the public unlike some where you have to have a business card (card from work etc).

Well, looks like it was a success :D.

I left it in the maker for 10 hrs and it has set really well considering it is still warm.

A litre carton of milk filled 6 jars which I have put in the fridge overnight.
I will keep a jar to one side to use as my starter for the next batches and may drain a couple to make some yogurt cheese.

By the way, the space that the jars sit in doesn't have grooves it is just flat, so, you could use other sized jars too if need be.

    Brilliant!

I left them in the fridge overnight and the have set to the extent that you have to scoop the yoghurt out to get it out of the jar.

I turned one upside down to shake the yog out and it would not budge!

The yog I normally make in the slow cooker has quite a bit of whey on top, this didn't have any at all.

Saying that it was not thin so I assume some of the whey evaporates as it says in the instructions to leave the lids off when in the maker.

I ate virtually a full jar this morning and I was only supposed to be tasting it, I couldn't stop eating it and that was without any added sugar or flavourings.

I have just taken a jar out which I am draining through a cotton handkerchief into a tall glass, going to make some yoghurt cheese with that later (ie Boursin style cheese).

I would def buy one of these again.

    ;)

By the way, it only uses 15 watts of electricity so won't be a lot even for 10 to 12 hours usage.

Not sure as I got mine from the cash and carry but I finished a jar of mango chutney last night and the jar is almost the same size as the jars you get with the maker.

Just washed and tried it for size and it def fits.
