thanks for reading ... feel free to chat on it :)
  • Busy day ahead today. Not particularly MS however will stick to a budget on the remaining xmas shopping. Looking forward to some R&R with OH.
House needs a good clean, will need to crack on sunday with it!
  • Caught up in the flight fiasco cancellations today.....
Son finally managed to catch a flight after a mad dash on the M8 to get a plane from Glasgow airport........
Still at least he got too Heathrow....in the end......:j
  • Presents all wrapped, nothing left money wise to OP mortgage and am overdrawn, not good, hoping to bank some money into savings early next year, however seems like lots of expenditure on repairs to car and house, suddenly MF seems a long way off with 11 years to go.
Really need to see if I can move it to 10 years in February 2014, that would give some much needed encouragement.
Looking forward to holidays in 2014 as have saved and are paid for.
  • Have had some news on my bonus from my employer that I can pay all or some of it into my pension, if it stops the taxman taking his 40% cut then I think it's worthwhile just putting the whole tax free amount into my pension fund instead of it being taxed and then using it for the mortgage overpayment.
I'm fortunate I have a share plan maturing in March so i think I will cash them and use that to the mortgage instead.
On a final note my central heating is fixed!!!!! Woohoo, now waiting for the invoice.......:o
  • Just sold our old car, priced it to sell and it sold within 4 hours of the ad on gumtree. Woohoo, little bit more money to go in the OP pot.
  • Well had some faltering steps along the way, it's amazing what curve balls life can throw your way. Managed to make a big overpayment last month to reduce my monthly payments, previously I had been making overpayments cutting the term and increasing my standard payment. All change. Anyway 10 years and 1 month to go. Plan is to pay £2000 off the balance in January to lower the repayments again. I then have a clear run of 3 years before my fixed rate ends. I will be looking to remortgage to a lower rate than the 5.85% I'm stuck at. Will try and make small overpayments every month, might only be £20 or £30, will see how it goes.
  • Had to make some big decisions in the last 6 months. Have now remortgaged and paid a substantial Penalty to exit, however my monthly payment has dropped and my term remains 9 years and 9 months. I'm now on a 2 year fix and can then reassess my situation when the fix ends. Will make some small overpayments this year, probably £2000 Max, will see how we go. Good news that my LTV was 58% based on the valuation a number of years ago. So will aim to post more regularly and track my progress!:)
  • Can't believe I haven't posted for about 7 months.
Anyway term is at 9 years remaining. Plan is to retire in 6.5 years so need to bring the mortgage in line. Going to look at making an overpayment of circa £2000 this month and lower the repayment a little as it's still quite high. Not sure how much this will lower it?
  • So it's been a while since my last post (13 months).
Coming to the end of a 2 year fix with Natwest. They will review it 3 months early, so in essence I can take out a new deal in March 2017. So will be chasing this down in 2 months. Will probably fix for 2 years again but keeping my options open. Money has been tight so my overpayments have been nil for 13 months hence no posts on here.
Need to reboot my thoughts on how I can save some income from my outgoings. I do pay into pensions, SAYE etc so at least if I'm not hitting the mortgage I'm saving in other ways!
Will check how many years left on the mortgage and put some thought into the odd overpayment.
