Fog at Heathrow now (15/3/12) - anybody confirm?

Just had a call to say my BA flight today to LHR has been "cancelled due to fog". (and the weather on the BAA LHR flight page says "59 & sunny"!
Can't see anything on the LHR website or the BA website and google returns news articles from Nov 2011.
Am I being told a fib?

I'm in North-East London and it is very foggy here this morning. It could be as bad or worse at LHR, I'm a good few miles from there so weather can be drastically different in 2 far-apart areas still in London.
So it sounds plausible to me.Public appearances now involve clothing. Sorry, it's part of my bail conditions.0 -
Also not necessarily canx through fog at LHR - the plane could have been somewhere else this am that's caused a delay/cancellation0

Curiouser & curiouser - the only flight showing cancelled at my departure airport website is mine - all the other LHR flights before & after are showing "scheduled".0

And can they still use "fog" as the reason rather than "re-positioning" or something?
They can use whatever reason they like and if you don't agree you can challenge it.
They're not always right, they don't always tell the truth but only you can decide whether you believe them and want to challenge it (whilst recognising that challenging is unlikely to re-instate your original planned flight).
Out of interest where's your flight from/to ?0 -
Well, LHR!0

That'll be LHR to LHR then - why not just walk ?
Tried to help more meaningfully but in answer to your first question - yes they can fib0 -
fog has pretty much cleared now!:A0

Looking at the weather reports from the airport this morning (they do them every 30mins) it has definitely been foggy at Heathrow.
Visibility has been between 500-800m although on one of the runways it's been as low as 250m. They also can't report the cloud level, they are reporting "sky obscured" meaning they can't see the sky due to the fog.
Now in theory those weather conditions shouldn't stop aircraft operating; however it's not as simple as that as in weather conditions such as these they often have to reduce arrival rates and restrict aircraft moving on the ground; and that is what causes problems at an airport as busy as Heathrow.0 -

looks like there were a lot of delays this morning which then have a knock-on effect, if your route is one that the airline serves multiple times a day, they will sometimes cancel a rotation to try and bring the later flights back on schedule0
