kindle 4 connection dropping

Can anyone help please. My kindle 4th generation is almost impossible to connect at home but works elsewhere. Just bought another as a mother's day present and it's the same so think it must be something to do with my home network. I'm with Virginmedia and use a netgear router. Clearly, if you are now able to connect to the internet on both, then the wireless connectivity issue has been solved by the mode change to 'g'.
I'm guessing that the issue is with your Amazon account login, as the chances of both devices having the same fault are remote. So your next stop should be Amazon support.
