Regarding removal of the DPF

Any evidence that the DPF failing is "the most common fault" on diesel cars?0
-
Whether it passes the smoke test or not is irrelevant - from 1st April any vehicle originally fitted with a catalytic converter (or dpf) which has subsequently been removed is an mot failure.Nothing I say represents any past, present or future employer.0

my son recently removed his dpf from his leon fr170 tdi.simply took the dpf section of the exhauast off, took it to a local car mods/exhaust tyre place.they charged him £30 to cut the block out of the silencer housing, then rewelded it.he put it back on,dpf warning light disapeared, since he's noticed the car is a lot more powerfull and about a 10% improvement in mpg.he's very pleased whith, and no need for a remap?
Out of curiosity, did his insurance company class this as a modification and put an increase on his premium?0 -

Can you provide the source for the info about DPF removal please?"You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

no idea,havn't asked
I bet he hasn't either especially since he claims it "is a lot more powerful" which it probably will be since he has had a ruddy big restriction removed from his exhaust"Now to trolling as a concept. .... Personally, I've always found it a little sad that people choose to spend such a large proportion of their lives in this way but they do, and we have to deal with it." - MSE Forum Manager 6th July 20100 -
@ pinkteapot .
Yes I believe it is a common problem that affects diesel cars made by most manufactures .
You can blame the driver habits for causing this and that would be correct , but then how many of them knew or even heard about the DPF very view from the evidence we can now see.0 -

The MOT manual doesn't mention the words "DPF" at all, and as said you can only fail for not having a cat if a fully catalyst emissions test is performed, which it's not on a diesel.

The MOT test for diesel emissions is a smoke test and it is only measuring the amount of smoke emitted and nothing else...
What do you think smoke is if not particulate matter suspended in air/other gases?
What do you think the purpose of a diesel particulate filter might be in this regard?"Now to trolling as a concept. .... There are companies who can programme your ECU and offer and perform A REMAP .
Regarding the MOT ! I believe they can refit the pipe and the DPF and afterwards remove it again .
And as soon as you get pulled by VOSA at one of their roadside checks and they do an emissions check it'll fail.0
