My parked car was crashed into!

    What about the owner of the car that yours was pushed in to? are they claiming off you?

    think yourself lucky that you got their details in the first place. my car was hit in the night on NYE and i never found out who did it so had to take the hit on my insurance. mine was also damaged like yours, back end, wheel arch, alloy, wheel pushed forward into the arch and a scratch on back passenger door. it was a complete write off. my insurance was due 2 weeks later and now £300 more :(

    Oh well. Now I've got the crappy Hyundai i10 sitting here as well as my beautiful Mini. I spoke to my insurer today - they're saying I should demand it gets fixed at BMW and they send a new, better courtesy car to me by Monday the latest!

    Why do yet need a better courtesy car?

    The i10 will get you about, is a lot newer than yours. Is it much smaller?

    It's not your job to demand anything. You pay insurance premiums for the comapny to act on your behalf when things go wrong. Chances are the BMW dealer will outsource the repair anyway.

    It's just really crap. I want something a bit better to drive in than an i10. :)

    I'm not paying an insurance premium.. Their insurance is handling it..

    Hi Zudecke, another place to go to for advice (they helped me loads) is the Financial Ombudsman, who you can 'phone on 0845 080 1800 and ask to speak to somebody relating to a car insurance problem. Good Luck!!

    Just don't let your own insurer send you a credit hire car, in place of the third parties.
    They will be very keep to upgrade you as well.

    They mean that you have paid insurance premiums to insure your car. Part of the service those premiums pay for is for your insurance company to deal with the hassle when your car has been damaged in an accident.

    Tell your insurance company (as you are almost certainly obliged to by your policy conditions - and it is far better for you to tell them than for them to find out some other way) and let them deal with getting you back on the road.

    I really don't buy this at all.

    You're advising I do this purely because I'm apparently contractually obligated to, right?

    There is NO benefit to me whatsoever from informing my insurer, as we've ascertained from the posts above.

    Clearly, this claim is going to be handled by the other party, who are in this case a rental agency. They've given me a courtesy car and agreed to have it fixed in BMW.

    So why would I tell my insurer to get the same thing done, but only to face a possible excess and/or premium/loss of NCB?

    Just struggling to see the value in the suggestions to inform my insurer...
