No junk mail sign

After years of getting junk put through my letter box I finally got a no junk mail sign on my door.
Despite it being only an inch away from the letterbox these people still keep putting rubbish through my letterbox, gggrrr
It's the charity bags I can't stand we must get about 3 a week in my area it drives me mad, there's no need for it!!
Any one got any ideas how I can actually make these people take notice???

  • I don't think there is a way of stopping it......unless you sit behind the door all day and, as soon as something comes through the door, you nip out and give it back to the person. However, you might then run the risk of them just using your door as a mass drop and shoving loads of leaflets through your letter box!

I've just started using the charity bags as bin bags (I don't have any more old clothes to get rid off) and the junk mail just goes straight into the recycle bin.

Since (I believe - no doubt someone ;) will correct me if I'm wrong) RM must deliver the junk mail (even the unaddressed stuff), I just accept that there will be Junk mail and treat it as 'direct to recycling'. I do note the companies involved so that I know not to deal with them if I ever want one of the services they are offering.

The bags make useful rubbish bags.

Yes you're right Azari, unless you've opted out with the MPS. Even then that info doesn't always filter down to delivery offices so people still get the junk. The thing is though, some people must read it, they keep sending it, so must be making money from it :)

MPS deals with direct marketing. This kind of stuff will have your name and address on it and will be targeted mailshots based on your purchasing history, albeit unsolicited. You can opt out of this by visiting the Mailing Preference Service website.

RM delivers unaddressed mail. It won't have your name on it, often it doesn't have the address either but will simply say 'To the Householder'. It will also have a printed frank mark in the right hand corner saying 'Delivered by Royal Mail' (or similar). You can also opt out of this by visiting the RM website.

  • The clothes recycling bags get on my nerves, I leave on the doorstep for them to collect to reuse as I've no use for them, then they don't collect them so I bin them, what a waste of time, I might start using them as rubbish bags instead- good tip.

Thanks, fluffnutter. I'll give that a try.

Although I cannot imagine that our postmen will remember. The regular one even mixes up my neighbour's post with mine from time to time (they numbered our street oddly so it is not exactly logical).

I never understand why people get so angry about junk mail. Its at most half a dozen pieces a day which takes at most 20 seconds to throw away.

I agree. It's not like phone calls where you might have to stop what you're doing to answer them. I'd just prefer not to be involved in the waste of paper.

I like getting the bags. If I have any clothes I will put them out or use the bags to take clothes to the charity shop.
I also keep a few in the car, they come in handy as emergency shopping bags and for muddy rugby kit/boots
