Advice please re 0705 Personal Numbers
OH works from home and often has to phone clients on their mobiles. Has recently been stung by one who has an 0705 number which is billed at nearly 50p a min and doesn't come from inclusive x-net minutes.
Would it be possible to complain to ICSTIS, or is that only for business scams?
Is it possible to ask our mobile network (Orange) to block us from making calls to specific numbers?
Any advice/suggestions would be gratefully received.

Some people actually use 070 numbers legitimately as follow me/ personal. numbers. Was he duped into calling it?
Best thing to avoid expensive calls, is to remember not to call numbers starting 070 in the future !!!0 -
Theres what appears to be a scam hitting the main stream mobile users now. A phone number showing as 0705357255 rings your mobile for just a second. Leaves no message. If you do a return call to see who called you then I suspect you will be billed more than a standard call rate. They are ringing me every day twice a day. I suspect this is the start of a new wave of unsolicited calls in an attempt to gain revenue. Anyone else having same problem?
Whoever gave out premium rate numbers starting with 07 needs shooting, anyone know whos responsibility that was?0 -
and watch out for 07822 that '3' count as International numbers!
OFCOM made a complete mess of the 07 range (come to think of it they did the same on 08!)0 -

I had an 070 number in the days before number portability.
It routes my calls to wherever i set it it to. In those days though cross net calls were not included, so it didnt matter so much.
I now only give this number out to companies or organisations that i don't like. Such as Powergen, Banks, Virgin Media etc and anyone that makes me pay for calling thier 0870 number.0 -
Just to add i've just had this from 07053538572
I didn't ring back because i googled 0705 first as it wasn't a familiar code.0 -

The whole telephone numbering system in this country is a mess. There is now such a demand for numbers that new 'bands' are being introduced but just being lumped in with the existing ones, confusing customers and actually being counterproductive as it restricts the number of remaining numbers in the existing bands. I've now started seeing 075 mobile numbers, when before it was a given that mobiles only used 077, 078 or 079 numbers.
The 08 band is another mess, lumping 'freephone' numbers in the same category as paid numbers. Another misleading one is the 'voip' band starting 056, but now there is also 03 being used for VoIP and Businesses.
I actually wrote out a revised numbering plan and sent it to Ofcom not long ago (yes, I know, I have better things to do but hey, it was 2am at the time). I doubt they'll pay any attention to just one random guy but they did have the courtesy to write back saying that it was 'interesting and cause for contemplation'.
I think that on the one hand, customer should know, or endeavour to establish how much they will be paying for a service before they use it. Now that does require that the companies providing the service (in this case the telephone service provider) clearly state the costs for using them beforehand, and we do have a legal framework that is supposed to ensure this takes place. that havinb been said, customers do forget in the heat of the moment to check prices before use, but is that the company's fault?
When I was with '3', people would often complain that it was really expensive to call me, calls to '3' costing almost twice as much as calls to other networks, and nearly 5 times as much as those to landlines. My response? Sorry but you chose to call me, and much as I appreciate your suffering, there's really nothing I could have done about it.
H.Know me for who I am, not for who I say I am.0 -

I never return a call from a number I don't know, and never to (what I took to be) a mobile number. I'm on PAYG and have no inclusive call time at all, so I make very short and essential calls only.Cheryl0 -
Today, I received a call to my mobile from 07053567660. It rang once, then off. For the hell of it I called the number. I got a recorded message saying something like "Calls to this number may be charged at a minimum of 15p per minute ....".
It will be interesting to see on my next mobile bill if there is a charge. If the message was from my service provider, there shouldn't be a charge, but if it was some scam to keep me on the 'phone so that the minimum one minute's charge could be levied, then I expect to find the charge.
I will advise the forum after I get my bill. Watch this space!0
