    how could they do this? practically, let alone legally?

    best sign out and just browse, and also clear cookies/history regularly!
    Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..

    In firefox, go to tools, options, privacy and click the "I don't want to be tracked" box if not already done.

    Not sure why they have to use google analytics to do this. I get that data from my web server stats. Also, some people use browsers that can disable these types of logger so the data will be missing from google (etc).

    Google Analytics and ChartBeat are exactly the same so I'm not sure why MSE have both trackers installed.

    I suggest firefox users install the collusion add on

    I also have 'do not track' ticked and no 3rd party cookies. Not showing anything from MSE.
    But I have google analytics blocked anyway.
