New Tesco overcharge policy
Comments

In my local Tesco before Christmas they had a buy one, get 2 free promotion. I'm so used to buy one get one free that I only picked up two items. On the way out I noticed by chance it was bog2f and of course, correctly i'd been charged for two items which of course was more than if I had picked up 3.
I immediately went to customer services, the lady was extremely nice, gave me the extra item and the refund and said it was a very common mistake. I wonder how many people just don't notice.0 -

On 8 January 2011 I bought some ice cream which was £3.39 each or 2 for £5. Once home I realised they hadn't applied the saving of £1.78.
I called into Customer Services today (at the store where I bought the ice cream) with my receipt and was told that the offer had finished and no longer showing on their system and therefore no refund could be given for the overpayment!
So another lesson in checking your receipts before you leave the store.
I am going to send an email to Tesco but don't hold out much hope.
Just an update on this one. I received a phone call from Tesco following my email apologising and a follow up letter with a £5 moneycard enclosed arrived yesterday. They admitted in their letter that "we hadn't programmed the offer into our till system".
So all credit to Tesco they did come through in the end.Growing old is unavoidable. However, growing up is still optional.0 -
I like their refund policy, it may perhaps stop so many point of sale errors if it's going to cost them to correct it. I for example was charged twice because of a double scan by a cashier who was too busy chatting to someone stood behind her on a £4.99 item in there just the other day, when I went to the albeit rude and apathetic customer service counter, I was refunded £9.98. It's not like you have to go out of your way to sort the refund either, I phoned the store when I had noticed the double scan upon returning home, I was told I was quite OK to just sort it out next time I was in store. This post was brought to you from the vortex of a human psyche, it was approved by my poor judgement. :T0

As they say, you snooze you lose
So what if you live 25 mile away from that Tesco (like some of us do), should we just pop straight back down?

In that case, why can't we be reimbursed online? I'd accept a setup where you could quote a code on your receipt and once they've checked the mistake on their system, they could send a voucher out to you to the value of your loss.
Tesco is happy to use the internet to sell their goods, so why can't they use the internet to reimburse us for their mistakes and save us a bit of hassle and travelling costs in the process?0
